Politics 101: A Lesson Markell Never Taught Carney

When he was engaged in a primary campaign against John Carney, future Governor Jack Markell told me how he intended to get shit done when he became Governor. “Politics 101… find out what the other side wants and don’t give it to them until they give you something you want.” It is hard to argue with the basic common sense of that formulation. It may not be pretty, but that’s how things get done.

And yet, now we have Democratic “leadership” completely flummoxed by Republicans simply acting like the Republican assholes they are. How did we get here?

A Long Day’s Journey Into Night Into Day Into…? Hey, don’t look at me. I don’t know what’s gonna happen.  Here’s what I know. What happened yesterday was political theatre.  One bill would have both restored grants-in-aid cuts and raised taxes. Why? Because the two are intertwined. The BS from Rethuglicans Simpson and Lavelle crying […]

Hansen Takes Both Sides on CZA Gutting

When the vote came down, she was for it. But not until she made sure everyone knew that she was also against it.

Though she ended up supporting the bill, Sen. Stephanie Hansen read a statement outlining her reservations about casting a “yes” vote.

“Failing companies and those just limping along are usually incapable of cleaning up the mess they make,” Hansen said. “And companies that are operating just fine right now will do only what they are expected to do and only when it is discovered.”

CARNEY AND SCHWARTZKOPF GETTING EXACTLY WHAT THEY DESERVE

When you give away everything before negotiations even begin… when you imagine that Republicans will be reasonable partners in effective governance, what the fuck do you think is going to happen? This a shitshow. How is it even possible in 2017 that we can have Democrats who are this naive and/or stupid?

CARNEY TOUTS CZA GUTTING & DEDO PRIVY AS VICTORIES FOR REPUBLICANS AND CONSERVATIVES ALIKE

The reforms in HB 226, which would restructure Delaware’s economic development efforts, and House Bill 190, which would allow for the responsible redevelopment of 14 industrial sites within the Coastal Zone, will help improve economic opportunity for all Delawareans and create good-paying jobs across our state. We will responsibly pave the way for new industries […]

Wilmington Chief of Police: Culture Needs To Change. Couldn’t agree more. Get their lazy asses out of HQ and out of their cars and into the communities. Oh, and have them on patrol at the time that crime is at its highest.  Alby is correct: Police unions are an impediment to effective law enforcement. They’re […]

Speaker Pete has given the D Caucus their marching orders: Pass HB 240, don’t dare deviate.  Those who deviate will be marched up to the Governor’s office for a one-on-one with The Kingfish The Jellyfish. There are some progressive legislators who strongly believe that those least able to afford it are being inordinately impacted by the […]

SEN. GARY SIMPSON & SEN. GREG LAVELLE DEMAND STIPENDS FOR WEALTHY

“Today, the Democrats demonstrated where their values lie. They have declared that that they cannot cut taxes for our wealthiest citizens and corporations any lower.  The idea that our wealthiest cannot get further tax cuts is mean-spirited and pathetic. The state government spends over $8 billion every year, and very little of that goes directly […]

Wow. Democrats acting like Democrats in Dover. At least to an extent. Me likey. And, of course, Rethugs acting like Rethugs. Yep, R’s want to delay budget consideration through July while, in fact, they’re holding the budget hostage in order to push their ‘right to work for less’ obsession and to straitjacket future budget deliberations.  […]

Trumpcare Vote Delayed

McConnell doesn’t have the votes.  In fact, the bill has lost support since the CBO Report came out. Not the time to let up, though.  Make your opposition clear.  Hey, we (almost) all have friends and relatives from out-of-state.  Urge them to call their R senators.
