Sessions Seeks to Bring Back Minimum Mandatories for Drug Offenses.  It already failed spectacularly once, why not bring it back? Plus, hey, we can get lots of blacks off the voter rolls.

Delaware School Board Election Results.  Of note, DSEA President Mike Matthews strongly supported Ashley Sabo for a seat on the Red Clay board.  Sabo won that seat, so I guess that’s a good thing.

Politico’s Take on the Comey Firing.  Guess who had been advising Trump to fire Comey for weeks now…that’s right, investigation target Roger Stone.

Comey should have been fired long ago and Dems shouldn’t waste their breath defending him. Firing Comey was an example of Trump doing the right thing for the wrong reason.

Obama never should have appointed a Republican who did his senior thesis on Jerry Falwell – we need to keep these people OUT of high office, not promote them. But Obama NOT firing Comey and leaving this problem for Trump was a stroke of genius.

  2. RE Vanella says:

Nobody is defending Comey. We’re merely pointing out that this is chaos. The institutions of democracy are being slowly destroyed. Comey as a person is incidental.

There’s an ongoing investigation of the Trump campaign organization that Comey was leading. Flynn associates were subpoenaed by a grand jury yesterday.

I’m no fan of Comey particularly but this this Nixonesqe.

  3. RE Vanella says:

    Just this from the Times:

“Days before his firing, James Comey asked the Justice Dept. for more resources for the F.B.I. inquiry into Russia and the Trump campaign.”

Sacking the director within this context is over the line regardless of who the director is. Get it?

  4. puck says:

“Sacking the director within this context is over the line regardless of who the director is. ”

Not sacking him would also have been over the line. Comey deserved sacking based on his interference in the election last year, no matter who he is investigating now.

Trump only fired Comey; he didn’t fire the FBI. It is now on the resistance to make sure the investigation proceeds even more vigorously.

  5. RE Vanella says:

So now it’s the same either way? And if we press everything will progress as before? OK.

  6. puck says:

Would you prefer that Comey were still head of FBI?

  7. RE Vanella says:

My preference could not be more irrelevant.

  8. fightingbluehen says:

Yes, we must proceed with the Russian hacking investigation. Comey was right on the verge of finding something out, and know we have a serious Constitutional crisis, right?

Which one of you was influenced by the Russians?….Anybody?…..Better yet, can someone here tell me one single person that they know who was influenced by the Russians and consequently voted for Trump, and if so, can they reveal what the information was that supposedly influenced them?

The only hacking that influenced the election was the hacking that the Hillary campaign and DNC did to keep Bernie Sanders out.

  9. RE Vanella says:

Yeah, because that is how the truth is discovered, random anecdote.

  10. Disappointed says:

Obama never should have hired Comey in the first place. And he should have fired him right after Comey’s letter was disclosed.

There were plenty of qualified Democrats for FBI Director. Comey is another unforced error by Obama that is costing this country dearly.

  11. RE Vanella says:

    Yeah, fucking Obama, right?

I’m disappointed too, in your weak fucking effort.

You’ve embarrassed your entire family as well as yourself.

  12. Ben says:

Dumpy may not have fired the FBI, but he gets to choose who now leads it. This is just the beginning of Dear Leader’s purge.
I say we will never find out the truth about the election and justice will never be served. The best case scenario is he limps along to 2020 and gets defeated (not likely, given the Dem’s endless boner for loss) or things get SO awful, the GOP allows him to resign for “health reasons” and they keep control of all 3 branches. They will never embarrass themselves by impeaching him.

Most republicans are vampires and have no reflection to self reflect upon

  14. Alby says:

@FBH: The Trump-Russia story isn’t about the election results. It’s about money laundering and blackmail. Do try to keep up.

  15. Alby says:

    Whiner.

And be fair — I don’t just call you rubes. I also call you hicks, hayseeds, yokels and dupes — stupid, stupid dupes. Also stump-jumpers, shit-kickers, chawbacons and yahoos. Yes, there exist all manner of slack-jawed mediocrities like yourself in this country, and they’ve apparently grown so accustomed to participation trophies that they want appreciation and applause for going to work.

Whatever it is you do, I’ll wager robots will be doing it in 15 years. Maybe 10.
