Coons pursues a downright horrible deal in the name of “moderation”

Filed in National by on March 23, 2017
Politco reports that your representative in the US Senate, Chris Coons, is in talks to cut the worst deal in the history of the Senate, by voting for Cloture on Gorsuch in exchange for a Republican “promise” to not eliminate the filibuster on a future Supreme court nomination.

The deal Democrats would be most likely to pursue, the sources said, would be to allow confirmation of Gorsuch in exchange for a commitment from Republicans not to kill the filibuster for a subsequent vacancy during President Donald Trump’s term.

How does Chris Coons still think that he is NOT dealing with bad actors? He seriously can’t be this guileless. That is only the beginning of how stupid Coons’ plan is, though. This deal is Coons trading something (a yes vote for Gorsuch) for nothing (a promise NOT to do something). It is idiotic on its face.

  1. Swamp the offices of these fuckers with calls.

    NOW!!!!!!

Jeezus H. Christ, these guys are pathetic.

  2. Ben says:

Could barely hear the staffer over all the other phones ringing.

  3. puck says:

That would be the worst deal since Jack traded his mom’s cow for a handful of magic beans. The worst deal since the frog allowed the scorpion to ride across the river on his back.

Even if Republicans honored the deal, what then? If the next candidate is successfully filibustered, Dems will vote to approve whoever is candidate #2.

The Gorsuch filibuster must stand on the grounds of Trump’s expanding Russian ties.

If Repubs could declare Obama’s nominee illegitimate because Obama had a year left to serve, certainly Dems can declare the nominee of a likely Russian agent to be illegitimate.

  4. Jim C says:

called the office about this after I heard it discussed on Them Hartmann show. Reminded staffer how well Trump and the Republicans honor their deals and that if Coons foolishly thinks that he’ll get some R votes next election he’s crazy!

  5. jason330 says:

If Coons votes “yes” on cloture and “no” in the full Senate he needs to be ejected from office. That shit doesn’t cut it.

  6. Coons cowardice has surfaced before. Remember how he threw Obama’s voting rights nominee under the bus when some bleeping state cops started chanting ‘Mumia Abu Jamal’?

Time to make him afraid of US.

As I mentioned on the other thread, a letter will be personally delivered tomorrow relaying these sentiments.

If Coons can’t hold his nerve on this the next step is to organize a lunchtime demonstration at Coons’ Wilmington office. Delaware is a small wonder. Our people know people (local media types, community organizers, etc.). At some point we need to really make resistance a thing. Like something for which everyone turns up personally.

Those on my email list will be getting more info this evening. The pressure needs to be turned up and kept up.

  8. Jason330 says:

    I agree.

  9. Ben says:

What would it take to make re-calls a thing in Delaware?
Hey John Kowalko, i know you read this website….. maybe put some state legislator pressure on our lilly-livered senators?

  10. Alby says:

Someone should check for the scars on his neck where the foreskin was removed.

  11. Oh, yeah, elected officials will pass legislation permitting the recall of elected officials.

  12. Joe Laux says:

Everybody pretty much said it ; this kind of a deal would be an OUTRAGE! Gorsuch is nothing more than a younger Scalia, and is unqualified to serve on the Supreme Court. In any event, if Dem’s are going to support any vote, they should demand it be for Merrick Garland.
As an aside, I called the Wilmington offices of both Carper and Coons. While Sen. Carper’s rep quickly took my name and address, Coon’s rep wasn’t interested, saying they are ‘only taking a tally’. Does that mean they are counting the calls from right wing special interests from outside the state? Maybe we have to make it clear to Coons that he is only our Senator because no one else wanted to run against Bill Castle, and NOT because we all loved Coons, and he got it because the Witch beat Castle in the Republican primary.
Speaking of primaries, maybe it’s time for some Dem’s with backbone to start considering primarying Coons when he’s up for re-election. Listening Bryan?!?!

  13. ben says:

Both Coons offices i called asked for my name/ town. Maybe he has Russian/bannonite operatives working in his office. Rat faced weasel, I wouldn’t be surprised.

  14. puck says:

I had to make the Coons staffer take my name and contact info. He humored me but I don’t think he was writing it down.

  15. Jason330 says:

Google resistbot. I just sent both of them a fax via that thing. Being old fuckers, they may put a premium on faxes.

  16. Jason330 says:

What gets me about this is how stupid it makes Coons look. Taking Republicans at their word..? Cmon man!

  17. speaktruth says:

I received an email to google: “fascism forever”. Gorsuch wrote it. This guy is a slick tongued far right corporate supporter who will make the Supreme Court the court for billionaires, only.
