Tom Carper Fine With Sessions Staying On & Conducting Russia Investigation

Filed in National by on March 3, 2017

A BIPARTISAN collection of 41 members of congress went on record calling on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from the investigations of Russian influence within the Trump White House. Super-Bipartisan, Tom Carper was not a part of that group.

That’s why he gave him a huge bear hug after he voted against him on the floor. It’s all show!!

  2. Alby says:

They’re gym buddies. That’s more important than selling out the country to the Russians.

  3. Jason330 says:

He sure doesn’t seem to get this whole “resistance” thing.

  4. Alby says:

The national GOP has moved far enough to the right that almost all of Delaware’s Democrats have been revealed as enemies of liberalism.

When the Republicans were still to some degree rational, Democrats could hide among the thickets of bipartisanship. Now that “bipartisan” means “OK with treating large blocs of people as subhuman,” they’re being exposed.

  5. Starting next week, I’ll be doing a series on prospective grassroots priorities in Delaware for 2018.

Carper will be at the top of the list. Jason, let’s combine the article with a GoFundMe campaign. We’ve GOT to put a real Democrat in that seat, and I’m not talking Jack Markell.

  6. bamboozer says:

Until one or more of our favorite DINOS gets a primary nothing will change. That and a near total lack of actual progressive candidates dooms us until we change something to defeat the almighty power of corporate money in this state, and for that matter the nation.

  7. Bamboozer, the ability to raise money via the grassroots is real. And I think we can do it to face off with Carper.

  8. Delaware Left says:

I think if you do raise funds it should be directly to a PAC and not through the vampire capitalists who own gofundme

  9. Jason330 says:

Delaware Left, do you have any sense of how the folks behind https://www.crowdpac.com/ stack up?

  10. I meant crowdpac, not gofundme. The indy rocker in me got the best of the grassroots guy.

  11. puck says:

Sessions has already “recused himself,” for what that’s worth.

Coons, while stopping short of calling for a resignation, was sounding sharply critical of Sessions and the larger Russian question:

    http://www.npr.org/2017/03/03/518292181/sen-coons-wants-sessions-to-answer-senate-panels-russian-questions

although it should be noted that Coons wanted to haul Sessions up before the friendly Senate rather than any other more credible form of investigation.

  12. Deeds, not words. Words from politicians mean nothing. Especially now. Look at what they do, not what they say.

Say, isn’t there a Supreme Court nomination coming up? Let’s see what Carper and Coons do with that one.

  13. JTF says:

who is this great progressive thats going to beat tom carper with all of these bernie bucks that are going to just POUR into the state?

which, and i know this may be difficult for liberals to understand, it may be a good time to explain how money actually works. because, there’s only *so much of it*.

And, given that there’s a finite supply, why the fuck would you have it utilized towards beating up a Democrat instead of trying to take out a Republican?

The definition of a circular firing squad.

But best of luck! Can’t wait to see what old Pacem in Terris moron you get to run against Carper.

  14. Alby says:

@JTF: Exactly what was said about the Tea Party.

But I understand — you’re a conservative, so you need the obvious explained.

If liberals give to Delaware Democrats, they do not get a liberal outcome. Therefore they must oust the illiberal Democrats first.

Good luck in your search for a clue.

  15. JTF says:

Good luck in your search for a candidate.

  16. Ben says:

Delaware would be the state to do it. I get trying to keep a center-left approach in Confed states, but this state is a democrat-lock. Running true progressives for the senate would have an actual effect.

  17. Alby says:

@JTF: Still looking for that clue, I see.

The candidate almost doesn’t matter. Simple opposition is the point. Make them work for everything and maybe they’ll start to notice people who don’t own businesses.

    You’re welcome.

  18. Ben says:

If Coons is ousted in a primary, I’d expect he would run as a repuke in the General… no doubt with the support of the Delaware DNC.
I would urge the nascent progressive PACs in Delaware to focus on senator Hansen. She replaced a truly empty suit and seems ambitious. We should show her that her path t political success is to the left. Right form the start, she can keep her campaign promises to prioritize education by bucking the Bannonite governor and not let him gut funding for inner city schools.

  19. Can’t teach old dawgs new tricks. Hansen is what Hansen is. There are better choices. Much better in fact. Eugene Young and Bryan Townsend for starters. Hey, depending how things work out, maybe Matt Meyer.

  20. Oops. Forgot. If Matt Meyer were elected to another office in 2018, Karen Hartley-Nagle would be County Executive. Never mind.

  21. chris says:

News Journal just put up a huge puff piece on Carper…. ‘Carper emerging as an environmental warrior!’

  22. RE Vanella says:

Byline is a national reporter (USA Today). They just put it up because it’s a local Senator. Still garbage though, agreed.

  23. chris says:

In the article, after taking hundreds of thousands of campaign cash from them, Carper says he has found home state chemical companies to be” above board !”

  24. Coons and Blunt Rochester are also missing from these lists. They don’t get a mention in the main post?

  25. Jason330 says:

I saw Coons on another list. I should have checked LBR
