Clinton Democrats Need a Coming to Jesus Moment

Filed in National by on January 20, 2017

Clinton Democrats want to let bygones be bygones. “Let’s forget about the bitter primaries when we told you to let the grown ups handle this,” they say. It’s funny since the Clinton Democrats are the only ones focused on the Sanders-Clinton primaries, liberals and progressives have moved past that and are now setting their sights on the sitting President. They will tell you they are willing and able to fight against The Third Way, but what they fail to understand is that by supporting Clinton in the primaries, they were first-class passengers on The Third Way. Until the Clinton Democrats understand that then they will always be standing still.

  1. Disappointed says:

Obama Democrats need move on, too. We need new leadership and new strategies to beat the conservative movement. And not nicey-nice bipartisan nonsense.

  2. puck says:

We have to be willing and eager to take on Democrats. No resistance movement can tolerate collaborators.

    Amen to Disappointed:
The average age of House leadership is mid 70’s- Pelosi, Clyburn and Hoyer. Senate is mid 60’s. The party needs to TURN THE PAGE and let Sen. Chris Murphy (CT) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (MN) and other bright leaders start to rise. Time to get fresh blood into the Carper Senate seat too.

  4. Paula says:

I’ve been thinking pressing Gov. Carney to make Delaware a sanctuary state (usually it’s a sanctuary city, but we’re so small, it might as well be the entire state), to stand up for Planned Parenthood and legal abortion without undue burden, to keep the Medicaid expansion regardless of what happens with the effort to repeal the ACA. These are just the first few issues that come to mind, the current imminent dangers.
Being nice isn’t a problem, standing up for human rights and civil liberties is a very nice thing to do.

what they fail to understand is that by supporting Clinton in the primaries, they were first-class passengers on The Third Way.

liberals and progressives have moved past that

    Obviously.

  6. Jason330 says:

Watch out Nemski. Liberalgeek is winding up to call you a purist.

  7. Christopher says:

Just keep doing what you’re doing, especially the anti-white/diversity stuff.

  8. puck says:

When did Democrats start mocking party discipline as “purity?”

  9. nemski says:

puck asked When did Democrats start mocking party discipline as “purity?”

It’s probably something that came with the corporate checks.

  10. Jason330 says:

Maybe it’s me… but in that masthead picture, I see a bewildered gerbil poking his head out of Putin’s anus.

  11. liberalgeek says:

I was pointing out the truthiness of demanding that Clinton supporters stop living in the past in a post that dredges up the past. It is utter bullshit.

Perhaps Nemski doesn’t know what it looks like to actually move on.

  12. SussexAonon says:

The come to Jesus moment should with making sure the top level people who ran her campaign never work in politics again.

Whoever had the idea of not funding GOTV in Michigan, thought they didn’t need Ohio to win and what ever the fuck happened in PA should never work in politics again.

But we all know they will get promoted. Oh hi, Donna Brazile, didn’t see you there.

  13. capesdelaware says:

Maybe you missed the e-mail or it has not been hacked yet. YOU are in compete control about 2020 .The grown ups are moving into old folks home . Have fun…

  14. Disappointed says:

    SussexAnon:

Donna Brazile was Al Gore’s campaign manager in 2000, the last time the Democrats won the popular vote but lost the Electoral College.

They are all sucking on the money stream flowing from the DNC teat. Winning or losing doesn’t seem to matter to them. Trump is just a fund-raising opportunity for them.

  15. Steve Newton says:

Another unsolicited piece of advice for Democrats from a non-Democrat: build the new party from the bottom, not the top. The reason there is now an unending stream of social conservative legislation emerging in state after state is that the GOP took over state and local politics. It’s often difficult to see this in Delaware, where the Democrats are the majority party, but it is certainly true nationwide. Concentrate over the next 2-4 years on taking back the state houses and the governorships that can be taken back, and the new leaders to challenge the GOP will emerge naturally.

Plan for an eight-year haul. Do not underestimate the power of incumbency, given that the only one-term presidencies in modern history belonged to GWH Bush and Jimmy Carter (LBJ and JFK don’t count against this). Concentrate on using state law (ironically, “State’s rights”) to block Federal law wherever possible. Cultivate a moderate GOP in these states; work with them, pass laws with them.

Recognize that Trump’s putative successor in eight years will be a traditional conservative Republican because the one thing the Donald cannot do in that time is groom a successor, because there cannot be a successor. Just to be sure, focus more heat on Mike Pence (ala Spiro Agnew) that you on Trump. Make him damaged goods.

And for my last, very real, very serious suggestion (and to Disappointed, I know this suggestion will offend, and I’m sorry for that, I really am):

    Buy guns.

  16. fightingbluehen says:

Who is calling the shots in the Democratic Party right now? I see that Chris Coons has high visibility as of late, but I think he’s still in the positioning phase.

The obvious choices would be Schumer and Pelosi, but does the Party really want to double down on alienating the kind of people who voted for Obama, but then voted for Trump in this past election.

Maybe it’s Elizabeth Warren, she seems to be an acceptable alternative for the disgruntled Sanders supporters.

Do the Clinton’s still have motivation? They sure aren’t acting like it. All they really have is Chelsea’s prospects at this point.

    Biden?

Maybe it’s time for something completely different like the two Marks, Cuban and Zuckerberg.

The reality is that the Democratic Party will probably be in a short holding pattern until the Obamas get settled in, and figure out which state has a Senate seat open for “When they go low we go high”, Michelle.

  17. Disappointed says:

We need leaders in their 50’s or younger, not 70’s.

We need somebody with the fight of Warren, the humor of Biden, the coolness of Obama, the liberalism of Sanders, and the strategic thinking of Dean.

“Going high when they go low” always puts you in pain and on the defensive. Ask any man who has been kicked in the testicles if this is true or not.

We need somebody willing to go lower and harder when they go low.

  18. anonymous says:

“does the Party really want to double down on alienating the kind of people who voted for Obama, but then voted for Trump in this past election.”

The problem wasn’t the voters who switched. It was the voter who stayed home.

  19. Disappointed says:

    @Steve Newton:

Not offended, but guns ain’t gonna work this time. Guns are soooo civil war. Police are way too militarized.

Seriously, I like your Infowars ideas much more. Been thinking a lot about it.

  20. Steve Newton says:

@disappointed–it won’t be the police you need the guns for. Think about it.

Infowars are critical, but have little to do with party politics.
