  1. Two notable obituaries:

Lou Moser, a great referee, who officiated everything from CYO ball to the NCAA Championship game. Universally respected and well-liked:

George Beall, the prosecutor who brought down Spiro Agnew, Nixon’s henchman. If you’re not familiar with the story, read the obit:

  2. SussexWatcher says:

Sad how the News-Journal still has nothing on the death of Gov. Buckson. It would be embarrassing for them if there was anyone left in the newsroom to be embarrassed.

  3. Ben says:

Is the Delaware DNC bothering to compete in the special election?
I know the date is not set yet, but Im seeing Marino signs EVERYWHERE and have gotten one small mailer from Hansen.

  4. puck says:

Granted I’m not in the district, but I haven’t heard much from the candidate herself. What are Hansen volunteers supposed to say when they knock on a door?

  5. Ben says:

I live in the district. Not a peep from her campaign.
I know signs dont vote, but from driving around, you’d think there was only one candidate in the race. Maybe the Delaware Dem party really IS trying to give up control of the senate.

  6. jason330 says:

I’ll be posting an update on the SD10 special this afternoon.

  7. Ben says:

Thank you, Jason. If Stephanie Hansen and other “democrats” in the state are uninterested in keeping the Senate out of Klan Kontroll, we’ll have to do it for her.

  8. mouse says:

So I guess all the miserable “drain the swamp- stop corruption-end crony special interests” types lost in their self righteous bitter clinger talk radio bubbles haven’t notice that the Trump cabinet nominees are mostly vastly more corrupt, self serving and incompetent than any in modern times. I guess it’s good for the right wing types that they have no reflections to self reflect upon or they would have to deal with incredible embarrassment and their shallow macho egos would have to face the prospect of being wrong! It’s not hard to see who these nominees are- stock tip corruption, giving hundreds of millions to the GOP, not having any idea what their agency even does. It’s just unimaginable.

  9. Ben says:

They knew what they were voting for. They dont care if a politician is corrupt, as long as they are white, and hate “those people”.
That is what your common teabag (aka, anyone who voted for drumpf) likes. It cares not for good government, justice, hell…. it doesn’t even care about it’s own children.

  10. mouse says:

yeah Ben, I think that really sums it up for the most part

  11. Ben says:

I take solace that I will out-live most of these people. They will die off and hopefully, not be forgotten, but be remembered by history as a blight on humanity.

  12. anonymous says:

My wife just got off the phone with Coons’ office. She was told that he will vote against Jeff Sessions. Carper’s office said he is still undecided.

  13. anonymous says:

Anybody else going to DC tomorrow and/or Saturday? I’ll be there both days in an easy-to-spot “Trump Sucks” t-shirt.

  14. anonymous says:

For anybody who thinks that Democrats understand their situation, here’s the HuffPo report from the DNC leader debate:

  15. RE Vanella says:

I’ll be there Saturday. I have a friend who’s a Turkish secular leftist. He’s no fan of the AKP party generally or RTE specifically. His hometown sport club is also very political. So on Saturday I’ll be marching in solidarity with the lads from Karşıyaka Spor Kulübü (as inspiration).

I’ll be the guy in the KSK cap and scarf. It’s also very rich since the club’s badge includes a small crescent (hopefully I get put on a list of some sort).

  16. anonymous says:

Just for the sake of example, here’s Pa. Sen. Bob Casey — whose state was carried by Trump, don’t forget — and his statement on why he will vote “No” on three cabinet appointees:

    http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/1/18/1621963/-Pennsylvania-Democrat-Bob-Casey-makes-a-strong-case-against-three-key-Trump-nominees

That’s how you do it, Senators.

  17. anonymous says:

Here’s the link to KSK’s wikipedia page:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kar%C5%9F%C4%B1yaka_S.K.

So I”ll look for a red and green scarf. Should be easy to find among 250,000 people — or maybe many, many more.

  19. Looks like I’m headed to the Philly event with my wife.

  20. RE Vanella says:

Good pal of mine is doing the Philly demonstration with his daughter. She’s 5. They made a sign last night that reads thus:

“I could be playing but you made protest!”

  21. I was thinking of a sign that read:

    “Russia’s President”.

  22. Jim C says:

She stopped at our house on Broad in Middletown shortly after the first of the year.

  23. Paula says:

Just called Carper’s office about opposing Sessions, DeVos, Tillerson and thanking him for his strong stance against Pruitt. Also thanked him for opposing bill to begin repeal of ACA during the votearama, but expressed disappointment that he voted against the Klobuchar/Sanders Amendment to allow the importation of drugs from Canada.
The staff person explained on the drug amendment that Carper was worried that the drugs could be unsafe and wanted to look into it further. After a deep breath, I said I wish he would look into it further and I think that if Canadian drugs were unsafe that we would have heard about mass outbreaks of illnesses or deaths of Canadians caused by their pharmaceutical products by now. Geez. I imagine the FDA meets up with the equivalent Canadian agency often enough that they could compare safety standards and share information about violations and fines and other relevant events.
PS: I did mention that his no vote made me think he was favoring his pharmaceutical donors over average Delawareans. I hope that comment makes it to the call log.

  24. Jason330 says:

    Good stuff.
