Lois Margolet, founder of Capriotti’s, Died

Filed in Delaware by on January 12, 2017

Sad news for all the Capriotti’s fans among us, Lois Margolet, one of the founders of Capriotti’s, passed away at the age of  68. The Bobbie, one of the shop’s signature sandwiches, is a Delaware legend. Our thoughts are with the family and are waistlines are bigger for your wonderful work.

Margolet was 28 years old in 1976 when she and her brother Alan opened the first Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop at 510 N. Union St. in Wilmington, the same Little Italy neighborhood where they grew up. The duo used a $13,000 bank loan to purchase the storefront, leaving them exactly $2,743 to start a “mom-and-pop” sub shop, named after their grandfather Philip Capriotti.

Did she happen to visit the Smyrna shop? That might have killed her.
