UPDATE 2: Carper STILL has no position on the Trump/Ryan plans to end Medicare

Filed in National by on November 30, 2016

Nov 30th, 3:20 pm UPDATE: I just called Carper’s DC office at (202) 224-2441, and Senator Tom Carper “has no position” on Paul Ryan’s plans to phase out Medicare next year and replace it with a voucher program which will force seniors to attempt to buy private insurance. I asked this time if there was a timeline that the Senator was working on for formulating a position on this question that should be very easy to answer.

… and what did they say?
That they would have to ask the senator whether he had a timeline for making this decision?

I left a message. No reply yet.

hate to break it to you but you probably talked to an intern. I was an intern for the senator in the DC office last summer. Our standard line for constituents with random inquiries (like yours) was “the senator has no comment or position at this time”. Don’t discount Senator Carper just yet. He’s a great man that cares more about Delaware than you’ll ever know.

  4. All due respect, he’s not a great man. He’s a corporate whore who, when confronted with a choice of protecting people or doing the bidding of his corporate lackeys, chooses the lackeys every time.

This should be a no-brainer for a Democratic senator. But Carper is on the record as wanting a ‘grand bargain’ that would result in cuts to Medicare and Social Security. Trump offers him that opportunity. Which is one reason why Carper must go.

The person I left a message for was named Meghan. Is this how we respond to VMs now?
