I’m out to give thanks…

Filed in National by on November 22, 2016

I’ll be back next Monday, but in the meantime, I’ll be giving some serious thought to what I can and should be doing in the next 24 months. The challenges we now face demand some serious consideration, planning, and execution. This lazy dilettante blogger stuff is done.

El Som got a ball rolling with operation Carper, and I definitely want to figure out I can best help out that initiative. But there is a lot that needs doing. Whether we are talking about blog activities or off-blog activities, I’ll need your help to establish some real goals and start grinding out some progress in the direction of accomplishing those goals.

We have some tough times ahead of us and I need to figure out where to apply my energies and my meager talents. Peace.

Whatever you do, make sure you check with the other contributors here at DL, you’ll have to make sure that it passes their litmus test as appropriate actions for the cause otherwise it won’t be good enough

  2. cassandra_m says:

You know, DV, if you aren’t interested in being challenged to be a part of the change that you are constantly insisting is not happening, you can be somewhere else. Like Facebook, where your audience may be able to detect some wit in this.

  3. donviti says:

Maybe the problem is, and will always be Cassandra, you’re an insider. There’s nothing about you that challenges the status quo, when you are the status quo. Sit on your perch and cast judgments all you want from inside your bubble.

If you aren’t interested in my comments, maybe you shouldn’t read them.

You’ll never get it Cassandra because you’re part of the machine

  4. anonymous says:

With respect to everyone concerned, we’re going to need both the insiders and the outsiders before this is through.

  5. donviti says:

Maybe new insiders sure, but the current ones blowing Clinton Bubbles for the past 18 months aren’t operating in reality obviously

  6. Jason330 says:

The one thing I know I will not be doing over then next 24 months is taking part in, or countenancing any Dem on Dem hostility. Will I still see posts beating up on Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, here and elsewhere? Probably.

But could there be a stupider or more unproductive waste of time given the challenges we’ll be facing? I doubt it.

  7. donviti says:

    is it monday already?

  8. RE Vanella says:

Double-Bind. You’re both right. We all need to resist, together. Fight for & with each other. Bitterness & resentment helps absolutely none of us. I really don’t care who’s where.

However, there is a faction who, more than hook, line & sinker, swallowed the full length of the liter on the basis of some vague pragmatism bullshit. Told people they didn’t know what was how. That faction needs a bit of humility.

So, while Donviti is a flawed, crude, belligerent character, let’s all reflect on our reflections. Then, fucking forget about it.

This is petty & embarrassing. I know you all in real life. This is kid’s nonsense. If you can’t get past it, ignore it. We’re grown, intelligent people. Allegedly.

  9. anonymous says:

    “We’re grown, intelligent people. Allegedly.”

As we grow up, our emotions don’t change, only our ability to handle them. Personally, I have the self-control of an 8-year-old. And it’s taken a lot of improvement to get there.

  10. cassandra_m says:

There’s nothing about you that challenges the status quo, when you are the status quo.

Frankly, you have no idea what I am doing. And why is that? I’m not sitting on Facebook half the day whinging about the Man Keeping Me Down. If you were in this fight someone would see you. But apparently you have been led to believe that is all you have to do.

    So good luck with that.

  11. RE Vanella says:

Facebook. I should have know. I’m feel ashamed. Did you children get in all out now? Tantrum over?

Now reflect on why rubes don’t take us seriously. Think real hard on that.

This Thanksgiving I thankful I’m old and never, ever used social media.

  12. cassandra_m says:

I don’t have much trouble being taken seriously.

Keep that in mind next time you want to know if my tantrum is over.

  13. RE Vanella says:

I’m actually not sure you know how silly that is. That’s very troubling. You have very important work to do and you’re talking about Facebook posts. It’s mind boggling.

  14. cassandra_m says:

The silliness is challenging what I said and not even knowing what I am talking about. It’s mind boggling to judge something you have no exposure to.

  15. RE Vanella says:

I actually think when he says “status quo” & “insider” he doesn’t mean what you think he means. If Donviti thinks you’re not doing important work in the city, if that’s what he’s really saying, that is empirically nonsense. I won’t stand for that. That’s fair enough.

But there are some criticisms there that are valid and if we (plural, as in not just you) don’t take account for some if this we are in serious trouble.

But if personal resentments are that relevant, carry on. I’m off…

  16. ex-anonymous says:

i thought re vanilla already promised to take off a little while back.

  17. cassandra_m says:

I actually think when he says “status quo” & “insider” he doesn’t mean what you think he means.

I think that DV has enough English to say what he actually means. There’s no reason for me to spend any time wondering what alternative meaning plain words like “status quo” may have.

  18. donviti says:

Let me know what the air is like up where you sit Cassandra, it must be lovely up there.

Preach away from the inside, us outsiders just don’t know do we?

The waterfront in Wilmington is coming along nicely. Your work?

  19. liberalgeek says:

Honestly, DV. I have a two part question for you.

Which politician on the ballot in the past 5 years has most closely matched your values? And what did you DO to help with that election?

No waffling about inside/outside. None of the usual evasive BS. Please give an example of what you’ve done.

Several of us could give you a list of what Cassandra has done and NONE of it would be considered insidery in context.

  20. donviti says:

Here’s the thing, I’ve never said I’ve done a god damn thing. Don’t wave in my face that because you have it makes what I do pointless. Who gives a rat’s ass. The two of them wave around their “efforts” like it’s some fucking badge of honor or some card that says I don’t have the right to do and say what I do. Eff that and Eff you. You do it your way, I’ll do it mine.

I have every right to bitch and complain on Facebook or a fucking pointless website named delaware liberal manned by people from Delaware’s Democratic Party. There’s a comment section practically built for people like me.

So Cassandra and Pandora can spare the condescending, maternalistic, arrogance that yammers on how because I’m not active like “they” are, that I’m not doing enough.

I personally don’t care what Cassandra has done quite frankly. I’m more than aware it’s meaningful. You know why? Because she said it is, and it’s better than anything I’ve ever done.

so if you don’t want people commenting that haven’t done enough to bitch and complain on a blog that post pictures of Trains and water, turn off your effing comment section and give users access that have done something that passes the test and allows your readers the ability to comment scorn and judgement free

  21. donviti says:

and for the record I checked in at Standing Rock.

    On Facebook

  22. liberalgeek says:

    makes what I do pointless.

    Which is?

I personally don’t care what Cassandra has done quite frankly.

Your commentary suggests otherwise. You seem to be quite clear that both of them are doing it all wrong. You are cursing the darkness AND bitching about the people trying to light some candles. Oh, and you seem to be doing it in a very gender-specific way.

so if you don’t want people commenting that haven’t done enough to bitch and complain on a blog that post pictures of Trains and water, turn off your effing comment section

And if you don’t want people criticizing your “ideas” and hurting your fragile little ego, perhaps you should stick to the News Journal comments section, or Facebook or some other virtual equivalent of old guys sitting on a porch bitching about “the system”. You seem to want to dish it out over here, but the second someone challenges you for your bull, you attack like some 3 year old that was just told no and wants to try out some adult words.

  23. donviti says:

Do you guys hand out punch cards like they do at Starbucks? Or maybe you should try gamification for commentors like Salesforce and Fitbit do.

So like if I attend 5 Cassandra qualified activist level events I get a Do-goodie-goodie Badge and can comment away for a week Cassandra scorn free? Maybe have paths I can follow? Education paths grant me a Pandora AND Cassandra free navel gazing comments?

Please let me know the next DL sanctioned activity that qualifies as acceptable community involvement. I want to be there for it so I can start garnering insider approval.

And does this mean my checking in at Standing Rock doesn’t pass muster as DL activism?

And for the record I like to think I act like a 10 year old.

  24. cassandra_m says:

If you are going to be in this place specifically dismissing the work that some people here are doing while continuing your ill-informed rage against the machine, you cannot be surprised at some pushback. Because — as is usual — you know no fucking idea what you are talking about. And — as usual — you aren’t interested enough in anyone here to actually do the work to find out what it is that you think you are objecting to. So if you are upset with being called to account, then stop trying to denigrate whatever efforts others are doing.

While you might be accustomed to being given a lollipop just because you are mad at the right stuff, that’s not going to pass muster as meaningful dialog or meaningful effort here. So get someplace where just being mad gets you the pat on the back you are accustomed to.

  25. cassandra_m says:

    And while I’m at it:

The waterfront in Wilmington is coming along nicely. Your work?

Sure, why not? It isn’t as though you’ll lift a finger to find out the real story.

  26. donviti says:

You’re right about one thing, I’m not interested in you. I’m only dismissing your work because it bugs you. You wave it about like a billy club. No one else around here does except your gal pal. The two of you fly in and out of posts on your brooms yammering away about your efforts.

Here’s your trophy, and my lollipop both of which you can shove.

Keep up the work in the city, and good job getting the mayor elected. Your work right?

  27. cassandra_m says:

You’re right about one thing, I’m not interested in you.

You are expending alot of effort on that disinterest. And the pushback on the work doesn’t bother me, especially since you’ve gone utterly batshit in trying to defend it. Predictable of those of you who really do know that just being mad is not enough to change a damn thing.

If you are happy with your impotence, than so are we.

  28. donviti says:

oh it does Cassandra, otherwise you too wouldn’t be wasting all this effort. Don’t fool yourself kiddo, I’ve dragged you down here with me and I’m smiling all the while.

Say a prayer for me on Sunday sweetie

  29. cassandra_m says:

There we go — mess with me and I’ll mess with you! The usual bullying level of discourse we all pretty much expect from you, DV.

You should be reminded of why you couldn’t hang here.

  30. donviti says:

Yeah, I don’t bother you. You’ve shown it by engaging in me for the past 2+ days.

Keep sinking lower cassandra and try to act like this is all beneath you at the same time

  31. pandora says:

I have no idea what your point is, DV, other than to be a jerk. You obviously feel guilty for not having done a thing for anything you claim to believe in – so much so that you denigrate what others do. Work needs to happen if we actually mean the words we say.

Cassandra has walked the talk. She’s involved and her voice is heard. Imagine if all of us did what she did. That would create change.
