Are Carper’s Empty Suit Days Over?

Filed in Delaware, National by on November 17, 2016

Other than being a US Senator, Tom Carper is also Delaware Liberal’s punching bag and for many a good reason. One aspect of Carper’s record that is kind of good, B minus good, is his environmental record. With Sen. Barbara Boxer’s retirement, Carper backs himself in as the ranking Democrat on the Senate Environment and Public Works  Committee.

There are big problems with Carper’s record, Keystone is one of them, but the biggest issue Carper will now need to face is the Drumpf’s administration dismantling of environmental regulations. With Sen. Jim Inhofe as the chairman of the EPW committee, it’s time for Carper to stand up and fight.

As much as protecting the environment is scientifically our biggest issue, politically it is not. Just ask President Al Gore.

    I lol’ed

  3. Those chemical companies didn’t give Carper all that money b/c of his dedication to protecting the environment.

His empty suit days will never be over. Which is why we must consign his empty suit to Brandywine Hills.

Carper needs to be out in 2018. He’s run his last race. Give him a plaque and a final speech and kick his ass to the curb.

Is there anyone out there who will hasten his departure? To announce a run now, assuming that he’s retiring, and suck the wind out of his sails? Who is known statewide and can run a true progressive campaign but not beholden to the Dem leadership?

Karen Peterson or Claire Snyder-Hall or Mitch Crane. Someone is going to have to get lucky in the same way Coons got lucky (or how Carper got lucky v Roth). Carper will run again, but he could very well pass out on the primary campaign trail, whoever has the guts to primary him in that scenario is our next Senator.

It would take getting one’s hands dirty…none of this “Delaware Way” BS….you can’t knock someone out if you don’t swing.

  8. SussexWatcher says:

Crane is quitting as Sussex Dem chairman, I presume to work for Navarro in the IC’s office. Karen Peterson is gone & retired. Claire? Claire?

  9. liberalgeek says:

Isn’t Claire moving out of state?

  10. liberalgeek says:

Just checked. She is moving to Sarasota.

  12. It’s out of character for him, but I wish Matt Denn would announce his intention to seek the Senate seat. He’s almost as popular as Carper, and he can campaign as someone from the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party. I think he’d win.

Matt? I know you read DL. Please consider this. We can’t afford any more of Carper’s DINOism.
