Not Good Enough

The Delaware GOP put out this statement:

The Chairman of the Delaware Republican Party released the following statement this evening in response to comments made by Donald Trump: “I was shocked and sickened upon hearing the 12 year old comments made by Mr. Trump prior to an Access Hollywood video shoot. Our Party is better then what we heard today, and we need to demand better from our standard bearer.”

“Delaware Republicans have worked tirelessly to show all citizens that they have a place in our party. We believe that every human being, man or woman, has inherent dignity. We stand by our efforts to promote individual liberty and economic freedom. We will continue our battle to return Delaware to the successes and growth it had under Republican leaders like Pete du Pont and Mike Castle.”

Not good enough, damn it. Simple condemnation is not good enough. It’s not good enough if the party and all its candidates named above are still going to vote for this man for President. The statement must include a withdrawal of support from Donald Trump and pledges that each Republican candidate up and down the ballot in Delaware will not vote for Donald Trump and they encourage every single Delawarean to do the same. Condemning him and then voting for him is accepting and endorsing him.

Remember Republicans, all of you, you are not victims and Donald Trump’s behavior is not shocking. You voted for and nominated this racist, this fascist, this sexist, this misogynist, knowing full well he was all of those things. You did this to yourself and you did this to our country. You all should be ashamed and you all should suffer the consequences, with the consequences being defeat at the ballot box.

    Well said, DD.

Every one of them is rape/sexual assault apologists. They own this… and Trump. And let’s stop pretending that Trump’s words/behavior is an aberration among the Republican party – it’s not. If it were then the GOP primary candidates would have jumped on this behavior. They didn’t, because they were A-okay with it. Actually, some “liberal” men are right there with them.

FYI: Pence is actually just as vile when it comes to women. Just sayin’

*Some restrictions apply. Offer not valid in minority and LGBT communities.

Should we start posting all the videos of Clinton saying she was anti-marriage and how it was for man and woman and part of the fundamental foundation of the US. But now it she can change stance and it’s okay. So what makes her better….. Remember when Bill was president the only real candidate to stand up to defense of marriage was….Sanders….this whole election ended when his campaign ended

I believe grown ups evolve, like Sanders:

That same year, Sanders was asked in a debate during his first run for the Senate about a Massachusetts state court decision that legalized gay marriage. The debate moderator wanted to know if Sanders thought the federal government should overturn that decision. He responded by talking about states’ rights, which is an argument often used by politicians who have argued against federal recognition of gay marriage as well.

“I believe the federal government should not be involved in overturning Massachusetts or any other state because I think the whole issue of marriage is a state issue,” Sanders said in the 2006 debate.

Also, Hmm, if that’s your bar – please call out Obama. If you won’t do that, then kindly exit stage left.

It’s no surprise the party that doesn’t believe in evolution can’t evolve on anything.

And I am no fan of the Clintons. At all. DOMA and DADT set back the gay rights movement by a decade.

  8. Delaware Dem says:

Actually, the momentum in the 1990’s was for a Constitutional Amendment to ban gay marriage after Vermont allowed it. DOMA prevented it. Yes, it is horrible, but in some ways DOMA stopped the Amendment momentum, and then set the stage for the constitutional showdown 10 years later. DADT likewise was an imperfect compromise step that advanced the issue. Yes, horrible, but better than an outright ban and a military revolt. Got the military and society used to the idea of gays in military.

  9. Rufus Y. Kneedog says:

DADT was a major step forward for gay rights. I think of it in the same terms as Obamacare – a half measure when society is not ready to see the obvious end point.

  10. kavips says:

I think the litmus test should be an announcement they are not voting for him… and if they want to go further, then endorse one of the other 3 candidates… Without that, it’s not an apology or condemnation, or anything other than platitude.

  11. SussexAnon says:

DADT was not a huge step forward. People still were investigated and thrown out.

Clinton kicked the LGBT community overboard and did it again on DOMA 4 years later. Because he is a politician and when push comes to shove, staying in power to sign stuff like a POS NAFTA agreement was way more important than doing the right thing.

Hillary will do they same thing on International Trade Agreements. Because both parties are on board for that since the R’s are owned by multinational corporations and traders and the D’s are in escrow.

  12. cassandra m says:

DADT came about when Sam Nunn and a bunch of congressional neanderthals decided that the new President couldn’t enact any gay friendly DOD policy and worked to make that DOD directive against homosexuals serving in the military into a Federal law. That law was going to happen and DADT was a compromise that the Clinton people got into that law.

Not enough? Maybe. But Congress was looking to stop a President who had promised LGBT friendly policy on the campaign trail and Clinton got them to back off enough to give space to LGBT who could serve and be in the closet. LGBT people were still investigated and discharged, but it did give opponents a platform to chip away at the legal justification of the law. DADT was the best save that Clinton could have gotten given how hellbent Congress was to enact this ban. It was a compromise and not a clean one, but compromise is the way these things work.

Condoleeza Rice took to Facebook today to denounce Trump in no uncertain words:

Enough! Donald Trump should not be President. He should withdraw.
As a Republican, I hope to support someone who has the dignity and stature to run for the highest office in the greatest democracy on earth.
