Rehoboth Police Chief Keith Banks is full of it

Filed in National by on September 9, 2016

The town of Rehoboth is at war with cyclists. When it should be supporting cyclists, it is instead trying to drive them away.

While there may not be a smoking gun memo, it is clear that the town has set its sights on discouraging cycling for some reason.

  1. Prop Joe says:

This from the same group of Mayor Quimby’s who continually dare Dogfish Head to up and leave Rehoboth…

  2. mouse says:

If people parked outside of town and biked in, Rehoboth would be a much better place.

  3. mouse says:

Snake in the grass police forces in the beach towns. They would rather go after someone guy on a bike who paid 5K to stay in the town for a week than go after real criminals

“If people parked outside of town and biked in, Rehoboth would be a much better place.”

From a greed capitalist perspective, the improvement in the quality of life would make home values soar.

  5. hmm says:

Rehoboth Beach Gov’t has a knack for rejecting national trends that would increase revenue and increase quality of life at the same time. Makes no sense. Especially with cities like Philadelphia and Washington DC within driving distance that have an exploding bike and alternative transportation scene.

  6. mouse says:

And I don’t get why these DC folk in their 100K status cars are so desperate to aggressively drive down Rehoboth Avenue in road rage on Saturday night.

  7. mouse says:

The beach towns look for every possible way to harass vulnerable people. They were writing violations of the ADA flag height regulations for businesses who had flags hanging too low. One has to look pretty hard to find that kind of crap.

  8. mouse says:

I was walking down Baltimore avenue the other week with a bottle Manhattan espresso cola and an officer came at me aggressively asking if I was drinking alcohol. This kind of crap serves no one and creates a lot of ill will. Meanwhile they can’t even keep their restrooms clean or provide hot water. And last week I was parked at Deauville beach and a cop drove in telling me I would be towed if I stayed past 8. Assholes!

  9. Jason330 says:

hmmm- Is it that the town government is captured by some good old boys of SC or something? I’m seriously asking.

  10. Dave says:

“Dave of Lewes has decried officers hiding behind bushes and billboards waiting to ticket automobilists.”

I am outraged! So what if I was violating the law. How dare they attempt to catch me doing it!

On a more sane note. Some bicyclists ride like they are wearing the maillot jaune. Dogs, children and the elderly shall not impede their entitlement to aerobic exercise or getting to their appointments on time. They call them sidewalks for a reason. Some hardcore cyclists are pretty aggressive, including on the Breakwater and Junction trails.

  11. Jason330 says:

    Nonsense.

  12. mouse says:

Town government on the coast is captured by egotistical know nothing city transplants

  13. mouse says:

The guys on 1000 dollar bikes in spandex going 20 MPH on the trail should be pepper sprayed. I’m a polite biker slowly biking on my beach cruiser to get driftwood and fruit smoothies..

  14. mouse says:

I’m parking at Whiskey beach then biking to Dewey for happy hour and a dip in the ocean. Sushi at the Pearl for dinner

  15. SussexAnon says:

‘memba last year when they tried to ban bikes from the boardwalk?

    Good times.

The City is run by from-heres and come-heres. But they all agree on one thing: Town would be better off if no one ever went to Rehoboth.

  16. Liberal Elite says:

    @m “The guys on 1000 dollar bikes…”

I’m guessing that you have no idea what a decent bike costs these days.
