Primary Campaign Literature — Tell Us the Good, the Bad, the Ugly

Filed in Delaware by on September 7, 2016

Everyday when I come home, I have a foyer full of campaign literature from candidates and most days I also have pieces that are left on the door. This season also seems to be the one where Delaware candidates really have embraced social media and some of them are doing really well there. All of you are seeing it all — and plenty I don’t– so tell us what you think. Tell us about the good pieces, the bad pieces and the just plain ugly pieces. Feel free to include scans of what you are looking at.

For me, I want to nominate NCCo Politics on Facebook for having some of the best hit pieces out there. NCCo Politics is mostly focused on calling out Tom Gordon’s shenanigans including calling out specific people/activists that Gordon seems to be working with. It’s a genuine campaign, with fairly regular updates, sponsored posts and material that comes from the current Gordon administration as well as previous ones. This page just needs more Likes. Here’s a couple of examples:

As a downstater, I find the Gordon thing fascinating…how in the hell does he keep winning? He seems to be a terrible combination of corrupt and inept.

    Mike,

Those upstate say the same thing about how we keep electing soft dems and do nothing GOP candidates like Bonini, Lopez, and Lawson

What I find odd is that for the first year in my adult life, all those mailers go straight into the trash with nary a peek…

Afterwards I feel like I have to wash my hands.. I’m trying to figure out what’s changed…

  4. JTF says:

He wins because he’s good at politics and has demonstrated to be a competent government administrator.

And before all of you start clutching your pearls… I don’t think he’s not corrupt or a great guy or any of those things. But I also think Grimaldi who keeps leaking these things is absolute scum. And even worse for hiding behind the scenes. And if Meyer is going to win from that garbage id rather have the devil I know.

Also Dave should get a job.

Yesterday I saw a guy standing on the corner of 14 and DuPont street holding a Velda jones Potter sign swinging it back and forth. He look like an idiot doing it. To me it tells me that they are really desperate. Plus it makes it look like there candidate is for sale any do anything to get elected because she has so much baggage. Vote for an honest candidate. Darius Brown for City Treasurer.

  6. Gordon’s administration is an incestuous cesspool of corruption. Former cops protecting former cops. Oh, and Gordon paying former cops ridiculous sums of taxpayer money for jobs they are not qualified to handle.

Yes, it’s tawdry. But it’s about time that Gordon was challenged by someone unafraid to lay it all out there. After all, Gordon’s actions made it tawdry in the first place.

I got a couple of Townsend mailers last week that featured quotes from some blog called “Delaware Liberal”.

    Really?

  9. Never heard of ’em.

  10. Brian says:

    Yep, really. Two quote snippets specifically from DL’s Townsend endorsement post;

“We now have the chance to elect a proven progressive and exceedingly effective legislator to Congress. A person with both intellect and heart. That person is Bryan Townsend.” (not this full line, it was truncated but I can’t remember the exact wording)

and I think : “We only send one. Let’s send our best.”

I still have one at home, I’ll take a pic of it and post later.

  11. Damn. I WROTE that timeless prose. Or is it poetry?

Of course, the “We only send one. Let’s send our best” was cribbed from Mike Castle, and, yes, I gave him proper attribution.
