BREAKING: Former NCC Councilman Chris Roberts Commits Suicide

Filed in Delaware by on July 26, 2016

This just came across the WDEL Newswire.

“Sources told WDEL that Roberts took his own life at his home on his family farm, the Roberts Farm, near Odessa, which was preserved by private non-profits in 2015.

Roberts was indicted in 2002 on federal charges of bribery and extortion relating to his council vote to prevent delays in the Chadwyck housing development. The ex-councilman ended up pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of filing a false tax return and was sentenced to two years probation and required to pay a $5,000 fine, according to court documents.”

It looks like he was struggling with the aftermath of the death of his son.

Sad. I knew him for a while taking part in the 9th RD comings and goings.

    God. That’s horrible.

This is terrible. Chris had suffered with extreme back pain (several surgeries in the past decade). I will miss him.

Heartbreaking. He must have been in so much pain. The loss of a child… I can’t imagine.

I didn’t know him at all but I completely understand the desperation of being suicidal. I’m sorry he wasn’t able to be saved.

I am dumbfounded by this news. I knew Chris and liked him very much. He had a wealth of political knowledge. Two stories stand out: He told me about how he knew to cut off the double dealing with money on election day. He once asked me, “How would a candidate named Coons go over in the Black community. I suggested that lawn and window signs with COONS might not go over well in the hood. We usually talked during an election cycle. He had a sharp mind. I’ll miss him.

    RIP Chris

I am saddened to hear of this. Chris was a good County Councilman. While I worked for New Castle County, I was alway happy to help Chris in any way I could. Remember all the good he did for New Castle County, not how he left.
