Boos Cruz… What Redstate is Saying
RedState.com Appears to be the last redoubt of anti-Trumpism in the GOP, so I was curious to read their take on Ted Cruz’ speech and the resulting hub-bub.
Last night, Ted Cruz proved a lot of things about himself and about the things he believed. But the most important thing he proved was about Donald Trump’s supporters: he proved that they are more interested in settling perceived grievances with the Republican party than they are in actually winning the White House.
Here’s how I know: Mike Pence gave a speech last night. Pence is the party’s Vice Presidential nominee. The success of his speech is a big deal to the success of the party’s ticket in November. It’s important for Pence’s speech to make a big splash and a big impression on the population. Much, much more important than whether or not Ted Cruz endorsed him or not.
And yet, if you check social media and in the news, the Trump supporters might as well have not even seen Mike Pence’s speech. None of them are talking about it. None of them are the slightest bit interested in what Pence brings to the ticket or his vision for America. On the other hand, they are hopping mad and incessantly bitching about Ted Cruz not endorsing Trump – in spite of the fact that the first words out of Cruz’s mouth were congratulating Donald Trump for his victory, and in spite of the fact that he did not say a single negative word about Trump, and additionally in spite of the fact that he encouraged people not to stay home in November.

I think Cruz’s speech was essentially predictable. Besides, he said today, he gave the Trump campaign a draft of it prior to delivering it. But they let him go ahead. And why? Because, once more, Trump operates on the principle that negative attention is better than no attention and it’s free publicity.

Sorry. No matter what Trump may think, I say the whole convention has been a disaster.
To see if I’m right, look to see if Trump gets the typical post convention polling bump. I’m willing to bet it will be small or nonexistent.
Oh.. And Hillary just jumped 3 points in the betting prediction market since last night.

Looks bad… But that’s a rather low volume betting pool, unlike the presidential pool. No serious investor is going to bet a lot on something one person is going to choose.
Trump’s people did read the speech. Trump’s counterstroke was his entrance, and the orchestration of the boos. For Trump supporters Cruz is the enemy, so the resulting political theater was, to Trump’s thinking, a win.

I think that Trump’s supporters want to burn it down. They don’t care if Trump can govern. They don’t care about our standing in the world. They don’t care about anything, including their own hides. The inmates are running the asylum. It won’t stop even with Clinton in the White House. I’m just hoping they remain marginalized until the old ones die and young ones are too busy with their guns to reproduce.
No, it won’t stop. What you’re seeing is the mob psychology that normally results in war.
The nations of Europe finally sickened of mass warfare after losing two generations to it. America’s losses were small by comparison, and besides, we’re talking about the descendants of the Americans who wanted to invade Mexico, and Cuba, and just about anywhere they thought they could extend the land-grabbing history of the U.S. When we stop them they want to secede.
If Michael Moore is right and Trump is elected, I expect an invasion of Mexico.
Three different headlines on the front page of The Hill today report Republicans calling Ted Cruz variously…
“Ass**le”
“Lucifer”
“A dumb son of a bitch”
