Markell is the Fourth Most Popular Governor in the Country.

Filed in National by on May 12, 2016

…at least according to a new Morning Consult Poll:

Markell.Poll

Republicans take eight of the spots on the list of 10 most popular governors. Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker is America’s most popular governor, and he is followed very closely by fellow Republican Larry Hogan of Maryland. Delaware’s Jack Markell is the country’s most popular Democratic governor.

Despite national outrage being directed to Snyder and his administration, he does not have the worst approval rating. America’s least popular governor is Republican Gov. Sam Brownback in Kansas, who is embroiled in ongoing budget woes that followed large tax cuts. Only 26 percent of Kansas voters approved of his job performance, compared to 65 percent who said they did not.

Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy, whose state has experienced job losses to neighboring Massachusetts, is the second-least popular governor in the country and the least popular Democrat. His approval is 29 percent, while 64 percent of voters in the Nutmeg State disapprove of his performance.

Amazing…the top two are Republican governors in Blue States, followed by a fiscally Republican governor in a blue state.

  2. puck says:

Delaware would probably be a red state, if the government were not the largest employer.

No, it would be a purple state if the purples had a party.

  5. chris says:

Markell does not deserve such a high rating. Few real accomplishments and very disappointing leadership. Not much to show for 8 years. Serious loss of major employers and no change to the Delaware Way.

Hard to believe that there are five less popular than Christie

I’m with Chris. I’m trying to figure out exactly what Markell has done.

  8. Dorian Gray says:

A fictional television character is the Republican nominee for President of the United States. It doesn’t matter what a politician does. What matters is what people think she’s done or what he may want to do. It actually makes less sense the more you think about it.

  9. pandora says:

I’m trying not to think about it, Dorian. It makes my head hurt.

  10. Dave says:

Maybe the standard is so low, that it becomes “first do no harm.”

Besides Brownback is in last place, so there’s that. And with that consideration, why shouldn’t Markell be 4th?

Gimme a break would you? This site is akin to an electronic National Enquirer. Get a grip on your own fantasies and quit grasping at non-existent straws. If you want to fantasize that Jack M. is anything other than what he actually is save those polls and articles for your bedtime readings and enjoy the wet dream that is sure to follow.

    Our Lord of Perpetual Outrage

  13. Nuttinghan says:

Somebody better call the Morning Consult and have them re-poll, because I think that attack by Kowalko just persuaded at least half of the 66 percent of people who approve in that poll to join the 23 percent who don’t. It was that persuasive.

Or maybe that comment by a legislator about wet dreams was just his own nocturnal emission?

(What – because it’s getting late and he’s emoting. You’d think I’d be as crass as him?)

    The Case for Jack

In 09 the state lost Chrysler, GM, the Valero refinery, and hundreds of financial sector jobs. Unemployment topped out at 8.7%. There was a $600 million budget deficit.

Today the unemployment rate is under 5%. More money has gone to workforce training and early education than ever before. Delaware has the most job growth on the east coast.
And that is without the cowards in the general assembly supporting a gas tax to improve infrastructure, or a really competitive strategic fund as compared to other states.

Doesn’t look like anyone from his administration is going to be charged with crimes, unlike the Minner administration. He has appointed more women and minorities to cabinet positions and judgeships than all other Governors combined. He has also moved the state light years ahead on social issues (i.e. Gay Marriage and Trans Rights)

    I think that’s a decent resume.
