Facts Are Always Lost on The Republicans

Donald Trump continues his “Throw Shit on The Wall and See if It Will Stick Tour”. This time it was in Downingtown, Pennsylvania.

Here is a tweet of Trumps from the 25th.

On The Facebook, Shannon Connors posted a wonderful reply to Donald Drumpf.

An Open Letter to Donald Trump After He Tweeted a Picture of My Town and I’m Probably Overreacting but I Feel Weirdly Violated and No One Cares and I Have a Final Tomorrow So I Should Really Be Studying Right Now But Just Wanted to Say This Real Quick!

Hey Donald! Sorry I didn’t get the chance to say hi when I was protesting at your rally the other week in Pittsburgh! Anyway, last night you tweeted a picture of the old Sonoco paper mill at 300 Brandywine Avenue in Downingtown, which is about ten minutes away from my house. The tweet read, “Passing what was once a vibrant manufacturing area in Pennsylvania. So sad! #MakeAmericaGreatAgain”. My sister sent me a screenshot of the tweet last night and when I first pulled it up on my phone I laughed and thought how weird it was that I pass this abandoned mill all the time but never really thought about it and now literally millions of people are going to see it. This amusement was quickly replaced by disgust. You just drove through my town. You just drove through my town and tweeted a picture of it and I bet you your self-reported net worth that you didn’t even take it! The picture itself doesn’t bother me; it’s the words that really make me want to rip your stupid hair out. I know you didn’t directly say it, but I think it’s pretty obvious that you were trying to use this picture to make some sort of statement about the state of our nation’s economy and maybe how America has lost all these jobs and blah blah blah. Without any real description the picture was left open to interpretation, but it’s clear that you wanted it to make people feel a certain way. Funny thing about this particular mill though! It wasn’t shut down because jobs were moved to another country or because the company failed during the recession. This mill is abandoned because there was a fire there in 2005! Look it up! Or better yet, get someone to look it up for you! The closure of this mill has absolutely nothing to do with the connection I am assuming you were trying to make between the decline of industry in America and depressed areas. And if you had instead taken a picture of the opposite side of the street, you would have seen a gleaming Wawa, a half-mile business complex, and the tower of the Chester County Intermediate Unit. So I guess I’m just a little annoyed with you because a lot of people are going to see this picture and think, “Yea we need to revitalize industry in America! People here lost their jobs! This is wrong!” but that’s only because they are seeing what you want them to see, which is skewed. Sonoco chose not to repair the 0.5-1 million dollar damages, so yes 71 people lost their jobs (and thank god no one died) but this has not in any way dulled our shine or mean that we are any less great. Although the vast majority of the people that will see this picture have never heard of Downingtown and probably don’t care, I just wanted you to know that we haven’t been a serious paper mill town since the mid 20th century, we are not in decline, and the town itself certainly does not need you to make it great again. We do not need you to make America great again; in fact, we will be much better of without you. Do not exploit my town for retweets. Do not use a picture of my town as propaganda. Do not ever come back to Downingtown. Do not ever come back to Pennsylvania. We do not want your bad vibes or your racist/fascist/sexist/anti-LGBTQA/all around hateful ideals anywhere near us. Bye! Have a sh*tty day, I hope you lose!

Love,
Shannon Connors

p.s.- You probably did not see his tweet, but the mayor of Downingtown, Josh Maxwell, replied to your tweet with “There is nothing sad about Downingtown. That mill is a future high spd train stn. You are uninformed, to put it mildly”. Just thought that was worth mentioning! #DowningtownIsGreat — with Donald Trump.

I love Shannon’s spirit, but Trump has a point even if not a solution. Vibrant factories that burn down are rebuilt, not abandoned. When industrial assets are replaced by a Wawa and municipal services buildings, that represents a loss.

Unfortunately it doesn’t matter and the number of people actually thinking about voting for Trump who will ever read it is not just tiny, it’s microscopic.

Here’s the news: Dog bites man and politician tweets misleading photo to make a point. (Yawn)

If you really believe this stuff hurts Trump ….
