First Delaware Poll of Presidential and Congressional Primary

Filed in National by on April 21, 2016

Gravis Marketing, which does not have a good track record, having been called the worst polling firm in America, and which incorrectly predicted a close 53-47 six point race between Hillary and Bernie in New York last week when it turned out to be a 16 point race, has polled our great state of Delaware. So take its results with a boulder of salt.

That said, it finds Hillary leading Bernie by 7, 45-38, and Trump leading all with 55% to Kasich’s 18, to Cruz’s 15. Here, I will put it in our standard Open Thread polling format:

DELAWAREGravis Marketing–Trump 55, Kasich 18, Cruz 15.
DELAWAREGravis Marketing–Clinton 45, Sanders 38

The more important numbers from this poll, however, are found on the Congressional Primary in the Democratic Party. It finds Townsend with a 7 point lead over Barney, 19-12, with Rochester getting 8 percent. A whopping 61 percent said they are unsure who they’ll vote for in the September primary.

DELAWARE–US HOUSEGravis Marketing–Townsend 19, Barney 12, Rochester 8

I will have another post up on this poll later once we get the internals to break down the numbers more fully.

I’m surprised Kasich isn’t doing better. He is a Copeland-DuPont type Republican, or at least he pretends to be one, and he has been first in Delaware with signage and campaign offices.

  2. puck says:

Delaware tends to reward candidates who actually make an appearance here. Steve Forbes campaigned in Delaware and won the DE primary in 96. Or, Delaware Republicans gravitate toward the wackiest candidate.

I saw my first Kasich sign on 202 at the split to Augustine Cutoff last night.

Wonder who commissioned this poll? I’m not surprised that the House race found alot of voters in need of convincing. The racial distribution of the responders seems off, though.

  4. Delaware Dem says:

Exactly, hence my surprise that Kasich hasn’t been doing better. I believe he has been. He is the only one with visible signage that I have seen (Concord Pike area).

Cassandra, I heard that on Twitter, and I just got the internals so I am checking them out.

Lots of Trump signs in slower lower…I actually think I was part of this poll! Looking forward to the internals of it. I can tell you they called on my land line, which usually only rings for polls, surveys, and charities asking for money. lol.

Kasich has been in Media, PA and Annapolis, MD recently . But no plans to come here. Big mistake! Since he has no money, he could at least eat and drink his way across Delaware like he has in recent states. Mrs. Robinos, Grottos Pizza , Helens Sausage House, Dogfish Head, etc.
