About the poll….

The “Another person wins” is a non-starter. Who is voting for that one, Mike Castle?

The only one that worries me is “Trump/Cruz unity ticket”. Knowing a little about the personalities involved, I don’t think it is going to happen, but still.

The unity ticket is the ONLY way they compete this year…but I don’t see it working since they are both so intense. How does Trump support “lyin Ted” and would Cruz support someone who insulted his wife in a brutal way? I don’t know…I could certainly Cruz win after a number of ballots, too. Either way, it is going to be a mess….and I couldn’t be happier about it. lol

  2. jason330 says:

I could see Cruz taking the #2 spot if he is convinced that he would be playing Cheney to Trump’s W. He’d consider it a 16 year Presidential term.

  3. Delaware Dem says:

The nominee cannot and will not be anyone not currently on the ballot. It will be either Trump, Cruz or Kasich, and I cannot see it being Kasich. Given the way Cruz is out hustling the Donald on the delegate convention front right now, it will be Trump short of a majority on the first ballot, and then Cruz with a majority on the second or third.

  4. Brian says:

If Cruz takes it on the second or third balloting, what happens with Trump Nation supporters? Does Trump go third-party and lob a grenade into the GOP side of the general election ?

  5. Mikem2784 says:

I’d love to say he does have enough liquidized money to run, but he wouldn’t need it. The whole “self-funded campaign” thing is a bit of a misnomer…the mainstream media is funding his campaign and would do so for a third party bid as well.

  6. pandora says:

Trump nation goes ballistic because every conspiracy theory Trump has pushed from day 1 is confirmed. No way does Trump go quietly.

  7. Ben says:

Nope. They do what he tells them…. and he gets some awesome deal to tell them to bow to Cruz.

  8. Brian says:

So there should be another choice in the poll: Cruz wins; Trump/GOP bloodbath ensues.

  9. pandora says:

@Ben What deal could Cruz use to get Trump’s support? I’m not seeing it.

The current Republican convention rules say that you have to win 8 states before your name can be put into contention…but the rules committee for the 2016 convention isn’t set yet, so they can easily eliminate that rule or create a compromise rule like “If you appeared on any ballot you can be put forward” or “On the sixth ballot if you get a nomination petition with X signatures you can be put forward.”

Also, of course at any point there can be motion to suspend the rules…at which point there could be a Paul Ryan or Mitt Romney nominated under suspension.

  11. Ben says:

    Oh I have no idea.
But I cant even begin to guess why Trump is running for President in the first place. Surely it’s a job that requires far more work and pays far less than anything he’s ever done before. I have a feeling he’d trade it all away for a show on Fox news…. Maybe Roger Ales, RNC Preibus, Cruz and Trump all sit down, and decide that Megyn Kelly is fired on live TV and Trump is given her show… where he endorses Cruz as ” the bestest and most honestest politician ever to live” And it isn’t like his fans care if he just flat out changes his position on things. See.. we make the mistake of approaching this Trump thing from a political-wonk stand point… at least I did for a while, and see others doing it… But what he really needs to be viewed as, is a WWF heal. As long as he comes away with this being able to get more attention for himself, he has won.

  12. Mikem2784 says:

There’s a chance Kasich ends up with enough delegates to play kingmaker, too. He has to know he’s not going to be the nominee but would be a strong VP contender…and he could so demand it if he wants to.

  13. Jason330 says:

Trump is currently working on hamstringing the convention through veiled and open threats:

But it doesn’t really matter whether Trump has good reason to feel cheated — what matters is that his supporters think he does. The more Trump can stoke the sense that he’s been victimized by a corrupt Establishment, the more politically difficult it will be for the party to deny him the nomination on a first ballot. Republican National Committee member Ryan Evans seemed to gesture toward that difficulty Wednesday, telling MSNBC that if Trump enters the convention with 1,100 pledged delegates — 137 short of a majority — he will become the nominee.

Trump and his allies have hinted at audacious ways of making matters even more difficult for the Donald’s foes. Last month, the mogul predicted his supporters would riot if he were turned back at the convention. Last week, longtime Trump ally Roger Stone vowed that he would direct enraged Trump supporters to the hotel rooms of any delegate that defied the Donald’s will.

But such incitement may be unnecessary. A majority of Republican voters already believe that Trump should receive the nomination if he enters the convention with a plurality of delegates. As Politico notes, a CNN/ORC poll released last month showed that roughly two-thirds of Republicans would feel either “enthusiastic” or “satisfied” about a Trump nomination.

  14. Dave says:

“But I cant even begin to guess why Trump is running for President in the first place.”

I had the same thought. My conclusion is that at some point in the poker game he won enough hands to be considered a serious contender. Then he went “all in” by being completely outlandish, hoping to lose. But he kept on winning and now he is stuck because he painted himself as Too Big To Fail. Still for Trump, a non-politician, what’s the downside? He has very little financial investment in this. He has gained stature, notoriety, and even gravitas and now can command an even larger stage for his own personal reality show. In sum, a pretty good investment for someone who didn’t really want the job in the first place.

For Trump, it’s not about governing, it’s about winning and making deals. Really, Trump doesn’t hate Muslims or Mexicans. He doesn’t even think about them really. They are merely commodities to be used in pursuit of a greater objective.

^ that…. coupled with American’s non-existent memory of friggin ANYTHING.. is what scares me so much about him.
