Colin Bonini: Tax Cheat

Filed in Delaware by on January 4, 2016

CB tax lien (1)

Let’s see. He takes taxpayers’ money for Sunset Committee meetings he doesn’t attend.  He has never voted for a state budget. He lied about having a Master’s Degree he never came close to completing.

It turns out he didn’t pay his taxes either.  Had three separate  federal tax liens filed against him. Over $28K owed (Other documents available upon request).  At what point does this reach a critical mass of fraudulence?

You know, with a record like that, there’s only one elective body where he’d feel right at home: Wilmington City Council.

  1. Jason330 says:

And this is Copeland’s “legitimate” candidate in response to Pistol Packing Lafferty? Jesus.

  2. Geezer says:

Lots of Republicans talk the anti-government talk. CB walks the walk.

  3. kavips says:

Well, with hindsight, Copeland has been the Democrats’ best friend. Just an overview of where the Republican Party stood in 2000 to now, shows how ineffective he has been at increasing Republican control of anything, which one might add, is going exactly the opposite from the national trend of governors and state officials.

If anything, Lafferty should take lessons from Trump and realize that you win hearts and minds, if you go after the establishment… which is Copeland… Otherwise, licking his boots as candidates from Jeff Craig going back to Bill Lee all learned, is a recipe for an embarrassing disaster.

  4. Geezer says:

@kavips: I’ll bet I don’t even have to point out any of the differences between Trump and Lafferty for you to identify about 1,000 of them. She is not a serious candidate, unless you considered Rose Izzo a serious candidate.

Sussex County is a fever swamp of delusion. That’s the only place people have even heard of her, and she’s considered too loony even for most of them.

  5. Jason330 says:

    Geezer.. lol

Kavips, looking at Copeland’s track record, you could almost imagine him dreaming this election up over drinks with John Carney.

  6. Jason330 says:

His.. “Carney is a great guy” attempt to drop out makes more sense now.

  7. CamWyo says:

Does Colin have a PAC? What’s the name of it? Would be interested in seeing those expenses and there the money is coming and going…

  8. Jaws says:

The one you show in the post is marked “satisfied”.

How does that make one a “tax cheat”? It can happen through poor planning that when you run your own business, you can simply not have the cash on hand to pay your tax bill when due. It happens. The IRS files liens and when they get paid, they get paid. Where is the “cheating” in that?

  9. A federal tax lien is an action of last resort. From the IRS website:

“A federal tax lien is the government’s legal claim against your property when you neglect or fail to pay a tax debt. The lien protects the government’s interest in all your property, including real estate, personal property and financial assets. A federal tax lien exists after
    the IRS:
    Puts your balance due on the books (assesses your liability);
Sends you a bill that explains how much you owe (Notice and Demand for Payment); and

    You:

Neglect or refuse to fully pay the debt in time.

The IRS files a public document, the Notice of Federal Tax Lien, to alert creditors that the government has a legal right to your property.”

Sure, spin it as just a simple cash flow problem. I’m sure that’s what the campaign will do.

  10. Bane says:

It could be what the campaign does…. and it could also just be a cash flow problem.
