Trump v. Cruz for all the marbles? My 20 sided die says – Yes

Filed in National by on November 24, 2015

Jeb! Bush is down to fourth (or lower) in most polls and seems to be about done. His style of pretending to be the grownup in the room is so 2008. The 2016 GOP primary voters have made it abundantly clear that they have no need for a grownup, pretend or otherwise. Anyone who thinks the constitution should hold sway over our racist gut reactions to terrorism isn’t taking the race to be the GOP nominee seriously.

That leaves Trump, Rubio and Cruz. With Bush gone, Rubio hopes the thing is going to fall into his lap. He is going to play it safe and try to let Trump and Cruz garrote themselves by driving their motorcycles into a wire fence. That’s a good strategy, as Trump and Cruz will no doubt garrote themselves. HOWEVER… Rubio has failed to take into account that garroting (this time around) isn’t fatal. Otherwise how can anyone explain the many self-garroting, and auto-decapitation episodes Trump and Cruz have survived so far?

From John McCain was a big pussy for getting tortured, “let’s go all third Reich on the Islam-ies” because safety! How can Trump still be standing? No. Rubio has fallen into the trap of thinking that the world makes sense. A critical error. The world makes as much (or as little) sense as Donald Trump says it does, because he read something on the internet and everything else is the liberal media trying to be “politically correct” or something.

Trump has mastered a game that George W Bush and Karl Rove invented. That game is called – “There are no objective facts, so fuck it!! YE HA MOTHERFUCKERS!! I rode a dragon here and my dragon eats your puny reality for breakfast and shits 20 kiloton bombs!!!” The rules of the game include:

Never look back. Never apologize. Always attack. The person attacking is always right. Any suggestion that the attacker isn’t right is a signal that you are a loser. Losers must be swiftly and viciously attacked for their loserhood.

It is a pretty simple game. Rubio, of course, has no chance to play it against masters like Cruz and Trump. The interesting thing will be to see two masters, samurai level, both of them, face off against each other. Their blades ring as they are unsheathed.

I just can’t. I sit down to write something and I just can’t. The crazy, the racism, the bigotry, the flat-out LYING is overwhelming.

My kids are home from college and that’s where my head will be this week.

  3. Jason330 says:

It is tough. Having to start arguing from the position that “Hey, there are objective facts” is daunting. That’s how the game invented by George W Bush and Karl Rove works. It wears out, and overwhelms the opposition.

  4. Delaware Dem says:

I have been predicting it all year: Ted Cruz will be the nominee.

  5. Geezer says:

If it’s down to Rubio vs. Cruz, I think Cruz would have a tougher time in the general.

I agree with Geezer. It’s a triathlon. The only thing you really know for sure is who is drowning (Bush for example) or has drowned (Jindal for example). When they switch over to the cycling portion, we’ll see someone start to pull away, hoping they won’t too winded for the pounding pavement portion.

The only ones really watching at this point are the political junkies (you folks for example) and the media, who need to fill white space.

Everyone else is brining their turkey (everyone brines their turkey right?) and getting out the decorations.

Cruz (for example) is going to decorate Iowa with Rubio’s entrails.

    Nope, I’m going with a Trump/Rubio ticket.

  10. SussexAnon says:

Trump said that Cruz can’t be president because he isn’t natural born.

  11. Jason330 says:

That will be an awesome story line if it comes down to those two.

  12. Liberal Elite says:

@SA “Trump said that Cruz can’t be president because he isn’t natural born.”

And that may well be true. That issue has never been tested in our courts.

The Dems won’t test that until the GOP is stuck with him. What would Scalia do with that one!! Didn’t he tip his hand as a birther sympathizer? Or will he conveniently forget that he once had a more narrow view of “natural born”.

And where are all those birthers who insisted again and again that Obama would be wholly ineligible if he was born outside the US? Why do they give Cruz a pass?
