Conspiracy Christine.

Here at Delaware Liberal, we will always have a soft spot in our hearts for Christine O’Donnell. Her primary victory over Mike Castle not only delivered a Senate seat to the blue team when it was going to go red, but it also gave DL our highest traffic numbers ever for a few months. So we continue to keep tabs on Ms. O’Donnell. And as you know, she is currently being sued by the FEC for using her campaign donations to pay her personal rent at her Greenville townhouse during the campaign.

She hired a lawyer to defend her, but then stop paying that lawyer. Lawyers like to get paid for the work they do, and when they don’t get paid, we stop doing work. Of course, as a Republican, Christine looked upon her lawyer as a servant/employee that was indentured to her, no matter if she paid him or not. So she was surprised when said lawyer moved to withdraw from representing her, and further surprised when the motion was granted.

But somehow, she received an email between her former counsel and opposing counsel for the FEC, and now she thinks there is some huge conspiracy against her.

While not being aware of the full context, as a lawyer, I can guess that what Abbott is doing here is trying to convince opposing counsel not to oppose his motion for withdrawal. He is not conspiring with opposing counsel to get Christine. Indeed, adverse counsel talk and consult all the time about scheduling, about what evidentiary matters are not in dispute and thus can be disposed of by stipulation to streamline the trial.

It’s not collusion. But it gives Conspiracy Christine some fuel for her persecution complex.

It’s not collusion. But it is enough for her to leverage a few bucks out of the dupes and losers who keep giving her money.

  2. “and now she thinks there is some huge conspiracy against her”

*Now* she does? Did she stop thinking that at some point?

    True enough, Brian.

I guess she wanted her addressed “blacked out” to keep people from hiding in her bushes.

It is a shame Ms. O’Donnell wasn’t a witch. She could magically make all this disappear.

The other thing to note here from reading tea leaves in the docket, is Abbott’s withdrawal is filed October 14, and the first set of discovery requests come rolling in on October 16. This is a very similar pattern to her employment discrimination suit some years ago, in which there was a shuffling of counsel on the eve of her deposition.

But, yes, the “collusion” looks like a fairly straightforward discussion of how things will proceed once Abbott withdraws, and doesn’t seem that he’s cheering them on. Hence the suggestion of “there’s a lot more I could say, but I won’t” in support of her conspiracy.

Alas poor Christine. Once again the damsel in distress is done in by nefarious lawyers who expect to get paid. I believe it was Abbott that represented her against the last lawyer she didn’t pay, and when that’s the type of engagement you take on, you can pretty much guess what’s going to happen down the road.

The redaction of the address continues to be amusing. Central to the suit itself are payments for office rental in her residence (or residential rental in her office). So just where she lives or lived is a material issue in the case. But redacting her address and then having it notarized in New Jersey is pretty funny.

She is a public figure accused of corruption. Any other softballs?

sure Jason, How long has she been out of the public eye and again who really cares. Just kind of pointless, but from the source understandable!!!
