This item appears on the public agenda for the upcoming County Council Meeting on November 10.

Resolution 15-203: URGING THE DELAWARE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE TO LAUNCH AN INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION INTO WHAT IS REPORTED TO BE AN AUDIOTAPED CONVERSATION BETWEEN GORDON EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT
(AND MAYOR OF ELSMERE) STEVEN BURG AND FORMER COUNTY CAO GRIMALDI, WHICH AUDIOTAPED CONVERSATION CONTAINS A REPORTED OFFER BY BURG TO “YANK” A TRAFFIC TICKET. Introduced by: Ms. Diller, Mr.
Cartier

Further, the Town of Elsmere will be holding an Special Council Meeting tonight to discuss the following:

On Tuesday, November 03, 2015 in accordance with section 304 of the Charter of the Town of Elsmere, Mayor Steve Burg called for a special meeting of the Mayor and Council. […] The Mayor and Council will go into executive session for the purpose of discussing personnel matters concerning the Mayor and will determine if any immediate action needs to be taken in order to address these matters.

I am told that reference has been made to Section 305 of the Town Charter of Elsmere in relation to that meeting, which does contain a provision relating to succession of power due to the Mayor becoming “disqualified from holding office by reason of […] malfeasance in office.” Obviously, the meeting will discuss Mayor Steven Burg’s audiotaped offer to former County Chief Administrative Office David Grimaldi to “yank” Grimalid’s traffic ticket issued last week for driving on a suspended license due to an unpaid fine. I am further told that County Executive Tom Gordon is lobbying hard to stop both meetings, or at least the consideration of any action at those meetings.

My sources also tell me that Tim Mullaney, the former Chief of Staff to Attorney General Beau Biden and a former U.S. Marshall and Dover City Police officer, is in line to be hired to be the new Chief Administrative Officer. That would mean that we now have retired police officers as the CAO, the Chief of Staff, the Land Use GM, the Special Services GM, and the Human Resources GM.

Way too many retired police in municipal, county and state governments in Delaware. Someone needs to pull the plug on this practice.

  2. Gordo says:

So Gordon is lobbying hard to stop public discussion of irrefutable, admitted evidence of corruption by his political appointee yet, he claims, he fired his CAO for a traffic violation? Something stinks.

Both the mayor and the County Executive need to do the right thing and step down!

  4. AQC says:

I’m not supporting what the Mayor did, but Grimaldi is a shithead for throwing under the bus like he did!

“Both the mayor and the County Executive need to do the right thing and step down!”

    I just lol’ed.

  6. Gordo says:

@AQC I have a different take. The “insiders” say that Gordon and his gang have been trying to force Grimaldi out for a while. After all, the guy has all of his teeth and speaks with some degree of intellect. Not the typical Gordon appointee. Most people think it was a setup which blew up in their face. Shithead? maybe. But he outfoxed the grand wizard

  7. Dorian Gray says:

Grimaldi is a shit head for pulling the old “don’t you know who I am” routine at the traffic stop. Of course Elsmere PD are notorious, but that move is always unctuous and shameful.

  8. bamboozer says:

Oh Puh-leeze! Things like this go on all the time, the only difference is the term “yank” as opposed to “fix” the ticket. This time the high and mighty got caught at it. Resign? Believe it when you see it.

I’m glad we don’t have this kind of drama in Sussex County lol
