Because the Bush name is batting .750 in presidential elections.
Bilingual, ex Governor… of a huge swing state… etc., etc…
I guess, and true.
Yet..they knew the issue of his brother’s suck-ass Presidency was going to come up. I mean…The entire nation doesn’t live under the GOP’s reality distortion bubble.
Because the Republican establishment created the myth that is Jeb! Even from the beginning he’s been portrayed as the “smart” brother – more so after the “dumb” brother’s presidency. The mythology grew from there. Since before GWB left office we’ve all heard “If only Jeb! would run” and after every loss we’ve heard “If Jeb! had run we would have won”. It’s the ultimate do-over.
It’s really no different from their revisionist history with Reagan. So many of the GOP choices can be traced to man crushes. Freud would have a field day.
“Daddy will save us!” I get it. It is wired in so deeply that the reality of what a Jeb! campaign would look like never really penetrated. (Except, of course, among people like Trump who appears to be fully aware of how mortally wounded a Jeb! campaign could be. )
Agree with Pandora. He was supposed to be smarter than Dubya.
Two problems, though. (1) Dubya was either stupid and/or willfully ignorant, so the bar was set real low. (2) Turns out the Jeb! isn’t THAT smart, and lacks the political street smarts of Dubya.
If he really was “the smart one” he wouldn’t have been baited into running in the first place.
And he wouldn’t have taken the bait from Trump.
Still can’t get my head around “He kept us safe”.
