The Real Conspiracy

Filed in National by on October 5, 2015

I just have to laugh at this story from the NY Daily News:

The mother of the Oregon mass murderer stockpiled firearms because she feared stricter gun laws — and shopped around for a shooting range that would let her and her son fire away without supervision, the Daily News has learned.

Laurel Harper, a nurse who shared an apartment with her son Chris Harper Mercer, spoke openly about her love of guns, said the mother of one of her patients.

“She said she had multiple guns and believed wholeheartedly in the Second Amendment and wanted to get all the guns she could before someone outlawed them,” Shelly Steele, who hired Harper to provide care for her sickly teenage son, told The News in an exclusive interview Saturday.[…]

“He liked to do it with her,” she said, referring to Chris.

“She told my husband she just purchased some new guns a few weeks ago and took him shooting. I thought the whole situation was very strange. If you know your son has mental health issues, do you encourage a fascination with guns?”

Steele spoke out two days after Harper’s heavily-armed son murdered eight students and their instructor before fatally shooting himself.

Mrs. Harper, the mother of the killer, stockpiled firearms because she feared stricter gun laws. She shared an apartment with her son. She was aware that he had mental problems, but chose to stockpile guns in her home because she feared the Obama administration was going to pass laws making it more difficult to get guns. She would seek the least restrictive gun ranges to take her son so the two of them could shoot as they desired, even while knowing her son had problems. She had purchased several guns just weeks before her son killed nine innocent people.

I want that woman arrested on 9 counts of conspiracy to commit murder.

“I want that woman arrested on 9 counts of conspiracy to commit murder.”

I absolutely agree. She is fully culpable.

    Agreed.

Sorry, no conspiracy here and no intent to commit a crime. Mother and son did not conspire to commit a crime and it’s legal to own and fire guns at a range. As for mental illness it takes a court to ban an individual from ownership or use of firearms, I speak from experience thanks to my brother. Guilty of stupidity and poor judgment certainly, neither a crime or half of congress would be in jail. Sense a yearning for revenge on the part of the article and responses, suggest you rise above that feeling and consider what will be needed to avoid the next occurrence . For it is surely coming.

  4. Jason330 says:

    Criminally negligent homicide.

  5. Always Watching says:

Not only is she culpable, I believe her paranoia is far to consistent with a Farce News indoctrinated, gun-toting, pry-from-my-cold-dead-hand, ignorant, far-far-far to prevalent segment of the American public.
Despite the contempt I have for the police’s shoot-first-with-very-little thought mentality, you have to start thinking, no wonder they act the way they do. Every stupid-ass gun-toter is out there thinking, “I have a Right to this gun and I’ll do any damn thing I want…”
…..Past ten years….3500 Americans, world-wide, killed by terrorists….. 312,000 American men, women and CHILDREN killed by GUNS!!!
We can spend TRILLIONS on the Defense Dept., but we can’t tell this ignorant bitch you need to have a brain to have a gun.

  6. Brian says:

I’d like her to also take a remedial American Civics class so she can learn that a presidential administration cannot “pass laws”.

I put this comment on the ‘Profiling’ thread, but I suppose it really belongs here…

    From this morning’s NY Times:
    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/10/06/us/mother-of-oregon-gunman-wrote-of-keeping-firearms.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=mini-moth&region=top-stories-below&WT.nav=top-stories-below&_r=0

As usual the gun fetishist mentality runs into the statistical reality.

“In an online forum, answering a question about state gun laws several years ago, Ms. Harper [the shooter’s mother] took a jab at ‘lame states’ that impose limits on keeping loaded firearms in the home, and noted that she had AR-15 and AK-47 semiautomatic rifles, along with a Glock handgun. She also indicated that her son, who lived with her, was well versed in guns, citing him as her source of information on gun laws, saying he ‘has much knowledge in this field.’

‘I keep two full mags in my Glock case. And the ARs & AKs all have loaded mags,’ Ms. Harper wrote. ‘No one will be “dropping” by my house uninvited without acknowledgement.’”

    She sure showed them.
