Holy Shiite!! Ted Cruz is F%$cking unbelievable!!

Filed in National by on September 22, 2015

Oh Dear.  I just used four exclamation points and “F%$cking” in a headline… What on earth is going on?

It is a legally speaking, a settled question.  Our constitution forbids religious tests for office.  Dr. Ben Carson (a vanity candidate with no real chance of winning office) doesn’t get that.  But now this…

Ted Cruz’s answer to a question about this new controversy hinted at what is really going on here. After affirming that he can read by noting that the constitution requires no religious test for office, Cruz said, “The broader question, and what I think Ben was trying to get at, is what are the consequences been in the last six and a half years of the Obama presidency?”

Are you fucking kidding me? This shit, which I had assumed could get no worse, just got a heck of a lot worse.

$h!t like that is designed to make Marco Rubio look good.

  2. Anonymous says:

The really funny thing is, that your even writing about it! Who cares??

  3. Brian says:

Who cares? Approximately 47-52% of the registered voters that are expected to show up in November next year likely care. 100% of the voters in the Republican primary will care one way or another. This is some frightening stuff on display from the right. Even for them.

  4. pandora says:

Yeah, this is a big effing deal. I’m so sick of Republicans lying and Republicans believing the lies.

And why wouldn’t Jason write about it, Anonymous? This is important, and a direct threat to our Constitution – a document Republicans only claim to love. They really want to rip it apart. Look at who’s leading in the GOP primary and then explain why things like this (toss Carly Fiorina’s lies into the mix) don’t matter.

  5. Anonymous says:

Only 2 in the “fantasy Pool” even picked Cruz.
IMHO, I don’t think Cruz will be in the mix.
And in a couple of days, he’ll probably say; “well that was taken out of context.” The old foot in the mouth.
“toss Carly Fiorina’s lies into the mix.” Thank goodness the Clinton’s don’t lie……….. back at yea, Pandora;)

  6. pandora says:

Seriously? You’re citing our fantasy pool? Which you don’t understand. There were two divisions which means only two people (one from division A, one from division B) could pick Cruz. Come on. Troll better.

  7. Jason330 says:

    Lol. Hoo boy.

Anyway. Here is my updated prediction. Brokered convention that ends with Rubio edging out Cruz.

  8. puck says:

Rubio does seem to be laying off the crazy lately. Although he is the guy who said Social Security makes us weaker. So bring him on.

  9. Anonymous says:

Sorry, your Grace, I was not really following the rules of your pool.
Please shower before going into the pool
No food or drink in the pool area
and no pets in the pool area.

But, if it is a “fantasy pool” is the pool really there?

Shorter Anonymous: I’ll keep tap-dancing and hope nobody notices that I got pwned.

  11. Mikem2784 says:

The big money behind the party has to know these guys are nuts…and I believe the big money will ultimately win out, resulting in a Bush or Rubio candidacy, since they are the only semi-sane qualified people in the race.

  12. pandora says:

I agree, Mike. What stumps me is how they get to that point. There’s going to be a large body count.

  13. Brian says:

Granted, I’m not following the GOP much, but I’d say Rubio will probably be the Big Money Favorite. He seems to be laying back and plotting his course through the cratered landscape left by Cruz, Trump, and Carson. (Cr-ump-son?) Which is probably the smartest thing he can be doing right now.

  14. Dorian Gray says:

Are we going to get our pants in a twist and light our genitals aflame every time Cruz/Trump/Carson make a disgusting pander? I think some of you won’t make it to the first caucus with a hospital visit.

To whom was he directing that comment, do you think?

I agree with Anonymous. This is a none issue. Do you think Cruz lost one vote or one dollar he would have received by making this statement. The fact that reasonable people are outraged is not a story.

Personally I agree with the Rubio point. He looks reasonable and sane.

  15. pandora says:

I do think this is an issue, Dorian, mainly because this talk resonates with a large part of the GOP base (aka primary voters). If there’s a way to take these guys out of the running without losing that segment of GOP primary voters I don’t see it. Because getting rid of these candidates means losing a lot of votes. If I’ve learned one thing about the Tea Party, religious right, “not conservative enough” crowd it’s this: Burning down the house is preferable to being governed by a RINO. Which, hopefully, works out well for us.

And pointing out this crazy talk serves a purpose. Whoever the Republican nominee is will have to defend or distance themselves from this talk, which will result in the loss of votes. One of the things in the past the GOP could count on was its voters falling in line. Not seeing how they pull that off given this level of nuttiness.

  16. Prop Joe says:

My drafting of Arian Foster (RB- Houston), despite his injury, will prove more lucrative to my bank account than drafting the Canadian, Ted Cruz…

  17. Dorian Gray says:

Fine, P. I’ll tell you what. I’ll buy the idea that says, basically, the most outrageous statements and untruths need to be pointed out so everyone knows which candidates are unstable dirty liars. But this outrage is ridiculous.

These guys are saying exactly what the character is meant to say to the exact people who want to hear it for the exact reason you said. It’s the same shit over and over and over and over and over and over again. How is it a big fucking deal when it happens all day every day for months on end?

Speaking of the character saying exactly what we know the character will say before the character says it… the shock and fainting spells, &c. make all of you look just as silly and predictable as the Trump, Cruz, Carson, et al.

Contra the headline of the post… it’s actually totally believable.

  18. Jason330 says:

    “the shock and fainting spells”

Speaking only for myself, prior to this statement from Cruz, I thought I had seen and heard it all, and that my postmodern carapace was unbreakable.

    I hadn’t, and it isn’t.

  19. pandora says:

Here’s an example of why calling out this nonsense is important. I know a lot of people (who are liberal/Dems) who bought into the Planned Parenthood doctored videos. It was so pervasive. This week Chuck Todd was interviewing a Republican congressman and the guy’s last comment about defunding PP was “we have to stop the government paying for abortions.” We all know that statement isn’t true. How did Chuck respond? He said, “Fair enough.”

This stuff needs to be called out. If it isn’t it becomes accepted as fact.

  20. Dorian Gray says:

Todd could have said that the government is already barred from paying for abortion. That’s true…

Then the Congressman would have said that money is fungible and any funds to PP are funds for all the services.

Then Todd would have had to go into a explanation for why that’s not true. Maybe something like this:
    http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_factor/2015/09/11/_money_is_fungible_at_planned_parenthood_not_actually_true.html

Then the Congressman would have said he didn’t believe Todd’s explanation.

Then time would have expired on the six minute segment and Todd would have to say “Fair enough”.

It’s not unbelievable. It’s totally predictable, because we hear and read the exact same shit day after day after day after day. And the fucking Iowa Caucus in still more than four months away.

You’re pointing out facts to people who don’t care. Ben Carson is a creationist. He thinks the idea of the Big Bang is inspired by Lucifer. What argument is going to convince him and other creationists otherwise?

  21. Jason330 says:

Maybe mentioning the overton window has become as boring and mundane as mentioning Hitler. Anyway… the overton window.

It matters, in a Democracy, that people who say crazy, anti-factual things are being taken seriously by 22% of American voters. The Tutsi probably laughed off the Hutu craziness as long as they could.

  22. pandora says:

We don’t have to convince him. We don’t even have to convince the GOP base that agrees with him. What we have to do is call out lies and explain the truth (why the PP claims are BS. Why what Cruz and co. are saying violates the Constitution) to reasonable people, because when we throw up our hands and say “crazy is crazy” without countering it then the lies are believed. Yes, it’s exhausting, but it’s necessary. Ignoring this stuff doesn’t make it go away – it makes it stronger.

  23. Dorian Gray says:

Look, I’m not saying we should shy away from real debate. Nobody digs argument more than yours truly. The issue I have is that most of the time we confuse these games with real debate.

You did it yourself. I said that the Cruz statement was neither surprising nor a big deal requiring thought or response. Your example about the PP funding debate that may shut the government down for a few days is not the same thing. Besides the fact that we already know what the outcome will be.

  24. mouse says:

Most of the people in the GOP base lack the moral and intellectual development to self reflect in any way, especially if it results in them having to admit they are wrong and change their perspective from their delusional view to objective reality. That’s why science, education, the educated and critical analysis are such threats to them

  25. Anonymous says:

“It matters, in a Democracy, that people who say crazy, anti-factual things are being taken seriously by 22% of American voters.”
But, what ends up happening is that someone else, either Dem or Repub, will come out with a stupid statement and then that will be the topic of the day.
    People will move on.
