Trump knows his audience

Read this. It is a part of Donald Trump’s only written down policy position (other than a PDF version of his immigration rant).

NATIONAL RIGHT TO CARRY. The right of self-defense doesn’t stop at the end of your driveway. That’s why I have a concealed carry permit and why tens of millions of Americans do too. That permit should be valid in all 50 states. A driver’s license works in every state, so it’s common sense that a concealed carry permit should work in every state. If we can do that for driving – which is a privilege, not a right – then surely we can do that for concealed carry, which is a right, not a privilege.

In addition to doing away with the concept of “state’s rights” where guns are concerned, the position paper titled, “Protecting Our Second Amendment Rights Will Make America Great Again,” calls for an end to gun and magazine bans and an end to the ban on carrying guns on military bases and recruiting centers.

Yes. Craziness to you and me, but gun nuts vote in the Republican primaries.

First of all I am a huge believer in states rights. I believe we need more state rights action and less federal intervention in state business. That being said, Delaware is a laughing stock when it comes to CCP. Many other states are in the same boat.
    1. permit is ridiculously easy to get
    2. reasons for issuing a permit continue to expand
    3. there is a mandatory class to take
    4. there is NO mandatory follow up on skills, mental health, physical ability

A Delaware CCP is not accepted in a lot of states that have a tighter control on the situation, for obvious reasons…..

Now as for a federal system I would hope that it would close a lot of the gaps. Much like when the feds stepped in to regulate the CDL drivers. Nothing but good stuff came from that move.

So as a person who believes in gun rights with sane limits, maybe the feds should get involved and create a CCP that is valid in all fifty states. That would take a lot of unfit people who currently have said permits out of the pool.

It is a slippery cookie no matter how you look at it.
