So Draft Biden is a Thing, and it’s holding a local party here in Delaware this weekend….

Filed in National by on July 24, 2015

We received this in our tip line, and though I cannot attend, I thought I should pass it on. This is an invitation to a “small and informal gathering” at a private residence in the Devonshire neighborhood off Shipley Road (and near the intersection with Naamans Road) in Brandywine Hundred. If you are interested in attending, email and RSVP to draftbiden_de@draftbiden2016.com, and then you will receive the full and exact address. Here is the full, though redacted, invitation:

You are invited to attend a small and informal gathering at my home (XXXXXXXX, Wilmington, DE 19810) this Saturday, July 25th at 1:00pm as part of the “day of action” taking place in all 50 states, to show support of nation-wide Draft Biden 2016 movement. I would be honored if you would please join us. Feel free to bring your friends and family. Please RSVP to draftbiden_de@draftbiden2016.com.

The 2016 presidential election will be one of the most momentous and important in our lifetimes. In recent weeks, there has been a media firestorm covering the growing grassroots momentum behind a Joe Biden presidential campaign in 2016. Across the nation, folks are intensely speculating a question that no one thought was a possibility a few weeks ago.

Vice President Biden is familiar with the day-to-day of White House life and is a seasoned veteran with affairs on the Hill. He has served our nation as a Senator for four decades, chairing the Foreign Relations Committee, Senate Judiciary Committee, and leading creation of the Violence Against Women Act. Do we not also believe that we hold elections in this country, not coronations? No candidate is “inevitable;” Democratic primary voters deserve a choice. All voters deserve a choice.

Today, I am asking you to offer your official support for the Draft Biden 2016 movement. The group, organized to encourage Vice President Joe Biden to enter the 2016 presidential race, in just a few months of work by former staffers and campaign veterans has gathered over 100,000 signatures and is has hired State Directors in the early states of Iowa, New Hampshire and working on building chapters in South Carolina and other states across the nation in anticipation of the Vice President entering the race.

We stand at a pivotal moment, weeks away from a potential August 1 deadline before which Joe will probably announce his decision. He knows the polling numbers. He can see that we are behind him. He knows we are aware of his family’s desire for him to run. And he knows that the legacy of the Obama Administration that he fought so hard for is at stake in this election, and he’s the best person to carry that legacy forward.

Draft Biden 2016 has already garnered support from elected officials in Iowa such as State Sen. Tony Bisignano of Des Moines, state Sen. Joe Seng, of Davenport, state Rep. Jim Lykam of Davenport, state Rep. Mary Gaskill of Ottumwa, and Scott County Auditor Roxanna Moritz and has brought on major Obama fundraisers Jon Cooper, Shiva Sarram, and Bulldog Finance Group to round out their National Finance Team.

Today, I am asking you to help me in leading the charge in our state. Let’s work towards being at the forefront of spearheading a Biden candidacy in our state. Let us show that Delaware is “Ridin’ with Biden” and we need him in this race!

Please feel free to reach out to me if you are interested in joining me in this effort. We will be holding a small and informal gathering at my home (XXXXXXXXX, Wilmington, DE 19810) this Saturday, July 25th at 1:00pm as part of the “day of action” taking place in all 50 states, to show support of the nation-wide Draft Biden 2016 movement. I would be honored if you would join us. Feel free to pass this information along to your contacts. RSVP to draftbiden_DE@draftbiden2016.com

Sincerely,
Bradford Glazier

These people are well meaning but confused. And I say that as a person who is often accused of being well meaning but confused.

  2. fightingbluehen says:

Or maybe they just have some integrity ,and can’t stomach the coronation of someone who clearly doesn’t deserve it.

  3. Jason330 says:

But here is what I can’t get over.. Just how HORRIBLE the Republicans are doing. It is amazing. Just think of the top three.

    1) Trump – ’nuff said.
    2) Bush – Just said he wants to figure out how To ‘Phase Out’ Medicare
    3) Scott Walker – turned the Wisconsin economic development office into a goodie bag for campaign donors.

It is wild. Maybe Carly will be the last idiot standing?

You know, I feel obliged to make this comment. Perhaps it’s been made before – I don’t know. Admittedly I’m not very enthusiastic about HRC. (I’ve already donated to Bernie Sanders twice.) A great deal of my reticence is indeed the idea of a coronation of sorts. Plus I’m far more radical that the middle of the road Clinton.

However, the suggestion that she isn’t qualified or somehow doesn’t deserve it is really disgusting. In Hillary Clinton we have an intellectual, an attorney of some distinction, a public policy expert, a US Senator and a Secretary of State. The idea that she’s “undeserving” of someone’s vote or unworthy to hold the office is an empty and ridiculous proposition. It’s indicative of a very childish and stupid mode of thinking. It’s the mark of an unserious person to make this suggestion.

  5. Franny Black says:

I’d prefer him as our Governor

  6. Anonymous says:

Hillary?? Really?? Emails that were intentionally erased, sounds like she had something to hide. Very trustworthy, NOT.

  7. Jason330 says:

hoo boy…. If that is representative of the Draft Biden people’s path forward…uh good luck with that.

  8. Dorian Gray says:

If you are distracted by the email scandal is says quite a bit about the shallowness of your thinking. You’re easily distracted and probably are unwilling to grapple with difficult concepts. Hence you rely on the force-feed rubbish on television as “evidence” for something.

  9. donviti says:

If, IF, and only if they have crab dip and a glucose and vegan option I’ll go.

19810 sounds marginally upper class with average housing prices in the low $300s. I’m not confident the food will be on par with the Clinton affair going on in Greenville this same night.

Can we get a better idea of the home style? Perhaps year it was built? Split level? 19810 screams split level. Which also screams fondue. Or Is it in one of the new cluster of homes built by the aide murdering Capano family up around Shipley road? Or is it the actual Toll brother homes out by Target with multiple families residing them?

If so, I can hit the Christmas tree shop, target, Lowes and petsmart on my way over!

  10. Geezer says:

i would welcome a Biden run because he might get some actual scrutiny this time.

  11. SussexAnon says:

Sorry, I am already committed to a $1000 per person (min.) fundraiser for Chris Coons. I am sure all the people in attendance are down for the struggle of us commoners.

  12. Jason330 says:

Listen to Donviti going all zipcodeist. Like he lives in Elsmere or something.

    @Dorian Gray

Why didn’t Hillary run for Governor of New York?
Because she can not lead, that would have shown that she could possibly be Commander in Chief. Things like; create jobs, pass a budget, etc.

She quit, when the pressure got too much for her as Sec. of State.

“the idea that success doesn’t depend on being born into wealth or privilege, it depends on effort and merit.” Obama
and yes, this holds true for the Bush’s.

Barbara Bush’s advice to Jeb applies equally to her: “There are a lot of ways to serve, and being president is not the only one.”

Has Hillary come up through the ranks? What has her accomplishments been?

You’re excited about getting Bill back in office and don’t say that it’s not going to happen. I guess your figuring a vote for Hillary, you get 2 for 1.

  14. Joanne Christian says:

Oh this is choice! We have Donviti redlining. So unbecoming of you liberals, and especially you progressive ones. Remember DV, that was the FIRST part of the invite. Certainly, you have more experience in these matters to know the secret decoder ring, password, kaleidoscope imagery, and REAL address will be revealed upon receipt of non-traceable funds, and or disappearing VISA card. I think now you also get one of those disposable cell phones too that will code you in and the precise time the other 37,918 people show up at the imitation stadium at U of D. In secret U of D colors of course! 🙂

  15. Joanne Christian says:

@ DG. I have to say you make very cogent points in defense of HRC, and again it is rather dismissing of people to go straight to the dog whistle of “coronation”. I side with you. In fact, I’ll go one step further, and say even in her failed attempt during hub’s tenure she gets props for taking a stab at healthcare reform AND really reframing in some sense First Lady duties vs. First Lady or any woman’s capabilities.

I can’t get behind this trip to the altar, for reasons beyond e-mail ( a really stupid “tempest in a teapot”, she’s never shyed, or the coronation piece.

Ben Ghazi was reprehensible as SOS as whatever covert assignations are appointed to Cheney. And then that Whitewaterwater thing. And then that lug she has to bring with her. The thought of him having a bathroom key slays me. At least Jimmy, could keep Billy Carter in guest quarters as “visiting family”. But she does seem to have raise a nice, bright, poised young woman in Chelsea, and she still is to be credited for past service. But, face it…in this business….you’re only as good as your last action, and about now she’s used up the goodwill. Give me an Elizabeth Warren type–I’m just brand tired of HRC–give me new mistakes with new people. Or else…….EACH and EVERY time she does something right or WRONG, we have to go through the whole history again. People then thought the Clintons breathed fresh air into the White House. It’s time for them to realize too, another window needs to be opened. They’ll still be loved–but at a different address. Go out while you still are, and discover the strength, satisfaction and beauty of a different power.

  16. liberalgeek says:

“Has Hillary come up through the ranks? What has her accomplishments been?”

Hahahaha. You should also attack her for lack of name recognition.

It’s pretty hard to challenge Hillary’s experience. The only President in the past 40 years that had more experience is probably GHWB.

  17. cassandra_m says:

Ben Ghazi was reprehensible as SOS as whatever covert assignations are appointed to Cheney. And then that Whitewaterwater thing.

The problem with the vast-right wing conspiracy is that it is often successful in spite of the facts. There have already been reports from the House and Senate Intelligence Committees that could not point specific fault or malpractice on behalf of HRC. As for Whitewater, two Special Prosecutors failed to bring any charges against them for that — the first prosecutor actually cleared them and the second couldn’t find anything for Whitewater and so went fishing for other issues. Including Monica Lewinsky. As multiple people on the inside have documented, Whitewater was always a strategy to try to smear and discredit the Clintons. It is sad that it worked on fictional material, since there are plenty of genuine reasons to be disappointing in both of them.

  18. fightingbluehen says:

It’s the cumulative effect. The Clintons have done so much sketchy bullshit for so long. They have continuously straddled the fence of legality for many years. It’s a joke, and the sycophants and low information types are the only people that will accept this.

  19. Joanne Christian says:

@ cassandra and FBH—what’s a little impeachmnet between the Dems and Reps–Nixon, Clinton, next……I’m just again, whether accelerated or not—- tired…..I mean really….we’re what 25 years into this? That’s a generation. Done.

  20. cassandra_m says:

Comparing Nixon with Clinton is about as good as it gets in false equivalence. Even though I get that Clinton was impeached largely because Newt thought he could wreak upon the Dems what Nixon wreaked upon the GOP. Americans were not in favor of the Clinton impeachment and made that well known to the GOP. Nixon is still guilty of using the apparatus of the US government to cover up his involvement in a real crime. Clinton is still guilty of lying about adultery. A problem for his wife, not the government of the US.

  21. LeBay says:

    @ Cassandra_m

    >Comparing Nixon with Clinton is about as good as it gets in false equivalence.

Please explain. All 3 of these people (Nixon and both Clintons) are at least as crooked as a barrel of fish hooks.

  22. cassandra_m says:

Seriously? Richard Nixon was at least accessory to the crime of breaking into the DNC HQ at the Watergate. And when caught, used the resources of the United States Government to try to cover it up. Neither Clintons’ issues approach that level of criminality. Which is why Nixon had to resign, and why the Clintons survive.

  23. Geezer says:

Younger people, alas, have scant understanding of the depths of criminality, paranoia and mendacity embodied by Richard Nixon.

The only reason the Clintons are mentioned in the same breath is that Republicans have been searching, in vain, for an equally diabolical Democrat since the day Nixon was hounded out of office.

  24. SussexAnon says:

“See, the Clinton’s are just as bad as our guy was 40 years ago.” (Except for the actually committing a crime and absolute abuse of power thing.)

    Yeah. Good strategy.
