Can we please stop pretending that the modern GOP isn’t a racist organization?

The leader of a white nationalist group cited in a chilling manifesto apparently written by the suspect in last week’s massacre at a historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina donated thousands of dollars to Republican presidential candidates, campaign finance records show.

The Guardian late Sunday first reported that Earl Holt III, the president of the Council of Concerned Citizens, donated to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY).

The Council of Concerned Citizens is a white nationalist group based in St. Louis, Missouri

This current southern iteration of the Republican party is racist. Period. It is the Nixonian/Lee Atwater/southern strategy/ party of white grievances BY DESIGN. It doesn’t try to conceal or deny it, so why does the media pretend it isn’t?

You no longer need to drive yourself around Rehoboth endlessly looking for a parking spot.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) – Ride-sharing company Uber is now doing business in three Delaware beach towns.

WDEL-FM reports the company announced Friday it’s now offering its UberX service in Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach and Bethany Beach.

The company says it signed a Memorandum of Understanding last week with Gov. Jack Markell, DelDOT and the DMV that will allow Uber to operate statewide in the near future.

The MOU establishes guidelines for Uber’s drivers.

DividerIf Philip Morris thinks its cigarette sales are being hurt by the Surgeon General’s warning, OR – if China thinks our meager labor protections are anti-competitive, they can sue the United States in a secret United Nations/TPP court designed to elevate the status of multinational corporations, because …jobs.  That is the trade deal YOUR Senators endorse.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership — a cornerstone of Mr. Obama’s remaining economic agenda — would grant broad powers to multinational companies operating in North America, South America and Asia. Under the accord, still under negotiation but nearing completion, companies and investors would be empowered to challenge regulations, rules, government actions and court rulings — federal, state or local — before tribunals organized under the World Bank or the United Nations.

Carper has sucked so much, I can’t even rouse myself to call him. I’ll try Coons I guess.

Jason, this is our LAST opportunity to defeat Fast Track Trade Authority and stop a dangerous trade “deal” from shipping jobs overseas and overturning environmental, consumer and financial regulations via secret corporate tribunals.

Will you please call your two senators today, and urge them to vote “NO” on Fast Track tomorrow? You can leave this message:
    Sen. Tom Carper
    (202) 224-2441
    Sen. Chris Coons
    (202) 224-5042

I am one of your constituents. Passing fast-track legislation to push through a corporate trade agreement we are not allowed to read is bad, but the new bill that strips away any assistance to displaced workers is even worse. Please vote “no,” or I will hold that against you in the next election.

This is interesting… Calling Republicans out as racist may actually be working:

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) will call for the Confederate flag to be removed from the South Carolina Capitol grounds, CNN reported on Monday.

Graham will make the announcement during a press conference at 4 p.m. ET on Monday, according to CNN.

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) will also appear at the press conference, and has also reportedly been working on a plan to remove the Confederate flag from the Capitol Grounds in Columbia.

Both Haley and Graham had previously said the flag was off limits.

Since the Council of Conservative Citizens is now officially in the *debate*, calling for putting the stars and bars in a museum is now about the only reasonable option to these people.

And go read that article, folks. Seriously, the CoC doesn’t condone the killings but they think that Roof had legit concerns. Legit.concerns.

I park outside of Rehoboth and bike in

  5. Jason330 says:

The sane choice. They need to fix the Church Street turn onto Rehoboth Ave Though. There is a plan to make the canal bridge and part of Rehoboth Ave a contiguous part of the Junction and Breakwater trail by shifting the traffic lanes , thereby widening the westbound shoulder into a two-way bike lane.

That plan is too efficient, easy and smart, though so it is being killed via bureaucracy.

Surprised no one on DL has discussed the new Marijuana law or our friends the Fisker corp building in CA.

Oh, take the confederate flag down!

  7. ben says:

There isnt much to talk about with the Marijuana laws. Once again, Delaware has tip-toed into the shallow end where other states have taken a plunge. You still cant buy it legally, you still cant grow it legally. Marijuana now is something that the state can use to raise revenue (fines) without having to pay the money to incarcerate people for harmless personal activity. Markell at his Luthoriest.

It isnt the confederate flag. It is the battle flag of Northern Virginia. Why is that relevant? Well….. imo, it is worse than displaying the REAL confederate flag. It isnt a real symbol of, say, the failed nation that Georgia tried to be a part of. If they actually tried to fly the Stars and Bars, that would still be traitorous, but it would at least be accurate. THIS FLAG, was only ever used by traitors to fight for racism. Imagine that. A bunch of idiotic southern whites not even knowing their own history.

  8. mouse says:

    Legalize it!!

“Can we please stop pretending that the modern GOP isn’t a racist organization?”

I don’t know. Can we please stop pretending that the modern Democratic party isn’t responsible for gladly flying the Confederate flag all over the place, including the South Carolina State Capitol. And how about Bill and Hillary Clinton’s connection to that symbol of racism? There is Hillary Clinton Confederate flag merchandise on Ebay, for crying out loud.

In the end, it took a Republican governor to facilitate the taking down of the Confederate flag in South Carolina. How about that?

  10. Jason330 says:

“Can we please stop pretending that the modern Democratic party isn’t responsible for gladly flying the Confederate flag all over the place, including the South Carolina State Capitol.”

LOL! Yeah those fucking “modern” Democrats like Strom Thurmond putting the flag all over the place. Fuck them!

    Pssst… Here is a tip.
Lay off the Fox News and/or crack a book once in a while.

  11. fightingbluehen says:

Try looking up a guy named Ernest Hollings. He was a US senator up until 2005. I would probably include him in the “modern” Democratic Party.

In case you don’t want to take the time to look him up, he was the guy who stuck the Confederate flag on top of the South Carolina State Capitol.

    @fhb

Have you ever heard the term “Southern Strategy”?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_strategy

The GOP basically bought the racist voters by promising a racist paradise.
Now the GOP owns them… The Democrats do not really want them back.

    So… Don’t pretend that the GOP didn’t buy them…

p.s. I’ll bet you were part of that “sale”.

  13. fightingbluehen says:

    So lame.

  14. jason330 says:

Ernest Hollings… Jesus, stop. My sides are killing me.

  15. Liberal Elite says:

    @fbh “So lame.”

So then tell us. Exactly when did you become a Republican?
