If she’s speaking to the DE GOP, is she really a “serious” candidate?

Filed in National by on May 27, 2015

Let’s face it, the DE GOP doesn’t attract the top tier.

Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina’s attempt to attack former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (D) didn’t quite go as planned on Wednesday.

Fiorina scheduled her own press conference outside of the Marriot Hotel in Columbia, South Carolina where Clinton was scheduled to speak. But instead of holding a press conference where she relentlessly attacked the former secretary of state, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO was peppered with questions about her own candidacy, according to The New York Times.

She was asked, for instance, about her decision to attend the Clinton Global Initiative last year given reports about foreign donations that went to the Clinton Foundation.

“Last year we didn’t know all the things we now know about the Clinton Foundation,” Fiorina said.

When Fiorina was asked if she would go again, she said she didn’t expect to get another invite.

Fiorina, according to the Times, appeared to get more frustrated as questions veered toward whether she was really a serious candidate. Fiorina was pressed on whether her trip to South Carolina was only for attacking Clinton. Another reporter pressed Fiorina if she was outside the hotel just because of Clinton.

To govern effectively, you have to govern for 100% of the citizens. So, different than most everyone else, especially different than Hillary, Fiorina is willing to enter hostile territory to make sure her message gets out to everyone. If, the hostile reporters choose to ask questions on politics rather than governing policy, then it is their own fault that everyone was not blessed with getting to hear the bountiful amount of information Carly has to offer about governing policy. The citizens suffered, not Carly. Carly’s name gets out there anyway.

As does the reminder that she is in the Top 20 of America’s Worst Corporate Execs.

My first response when told about her appearance was “who?”

  4. fightingbluehen says:

DEvoter302 is a clever name, but you probably didn’t need to use both the 302 area code and the DE abbreviation. You see, we all live in the 302 area code here in Delaware, so it doesn’t really distinguish you from anybody else.

BTW, if you’ve never heard of Carly Fiorina, you may want to try another blog that doesn’t involve current political topics.

@FBH: She’s little known outside of tech/business press circles (can’t find an actual number, but publications from Politico to the Washington Examiner note her low name recognition). People with little money spend little time on the business press; they don’t know or care who leads America’s corporations.

That said, she’s running a good campaign so far. She might do surprisingly well in Iowa.

  6. cassandra_m says:

Most political junkies would know who she was since she ran a high profile Senate race in CA that she spectacularly lost. Political junkies would also know her as the GOP’s Great White Female Hope.

And it is a little rich for FBH to criticize anyone on the basis of distinguishing themselves, since his distinguishing feature here is towncrier for the Fox News talking points of the day. While insisting that he never watches it. 🙄

  7. fightingbluehen says:

I really don’t watch Fox News or any other TV news for that matter, but it’s very telling that in a sea of left leaning media outlets, the left can’t even tolerate one single dissenting point of view….not one.

And trust me cassandra. I can figure out the talking points before Fox News and it’s puffed up plastic looking actors can.

  8. cassandra_m says:

The left can tolerate plenty of dissenting POVs. What the left doesn’t tolerate is the made up bullshit and the manufactured outrage. So when you have a real dissenting POV, holla back at us.

“… in a sea of left leaning media outlets…”

After all these years, this type of thing still makes me chuckle.

Yes, it’s funny how every conservative in the country “figures it out” in the exact same terms at the same time. Wonder how that works?

“Yes, it’s funny how every conservative in the country “figures it out” in the exact same terms at the same time. Wonder how that works?”

Well, the internet helps, but I don’t think all conservatives fit into one category just as all liberals don’t…..wait…scratch that.

  14. Geezer says:

True. There are crazy conservatives, stupid conservatives, rageaholic conservatives, religious conservatives — and yet they all agree on most issues, AND IN THE SAME PHRASES.

That’s my point: No matter where you’re getting your “information,” it all originally came from the same place.

  15. fightingbluehen says:

Let’s try a little exercise in beating Fox News to the talking points.

If we can do some research and get the names of the companies that are slated to supply the Qatar World Cup with air conditioning and the renewable energy that will power it, and the firms that will be dealing in the carbon offsets that FIFA now requires for a carbon nuetral World Cup, we may be able to find a connection between them and the Clinton Foundation.

We have already read about the Clinton’s connections to FIFA and Qatar, but I haven’t heard of any connections with the proposed renewable energy companies, or carbon offset deals , but I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a there, there.

  16. Geezer says:

You make the mistake of thinking I give a shit. I disagree with the entire premise of international sport.

As for crooked business practices, why pick on the Clintons? You can find that anywhere you choose to look.

  17. cassandra_m says:

Yesterday, the conspiracy was that the DOJ’s effort was to get the World Cup in England.

    Today’s conspiracy is renewable energy.

Qui bono is always a good question, but a credible answer always requires data.

So go play with it outside.

Global engineering consulting firm Arup Associates, C40, and the Clinton Climate Initiative? Pretty much all I have, but I worked late, and I’ve been drinking.

  20. fightingbluehen says:

    Oh, so I’m udefined now.

  21. DEvoter302 says:

I’m into policy not political figures so it’s reasonable I never heard of her. If you want to fake liking a candidate just because of gender, race, party, and what the talking heads tell you then yea, I guess you’re right, this is the perfect site to do it.

  22. fightingbluehen says:

@DEvoter302—- Glad to hear that you won’t be backing Hillary Clinton. That’s a good start.

And don’t forget that dissenting POV in science requires verifiable and quantifiable data and not just religious claim or parroted talk radio dogmas
