“Doing a bunch of a-hole bullshit instead of governing”

Filed in National by on March 26, 2015

If I had to give the GOP a motto that encapsulated their mission, it would be the one above.

In the latest act of, “we don’t give a shit about governing, we just want to make headlines” style governing the Indiana legislature passed, and the Republican Governor of Indiana signed a bill to protect the “religious liberty” of idiots who hold their ability to be assholes as central to their faith.

On Thursday, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, signed a controversial religious freedom bill into law that protects business owners from being required to serve same-sex couples if they have religious objections.

Beyond the fact that this is legalized assholery, where are the damaged parties? Aren’t laws supposed to ameliorate some wrong? Where are the zealous assholy wedding photographers who have lost business photographing asshole weddings because they are being inundated by gays who want asshole wedding photographers? Where are the asshole wedding cake bakers who are having their asshole rights abridged? I doubt Indiana could produce two such a-holes.

This is pure bullshit.

And yet – Tom Carper, Chris Coons, and John Carney continue to claim that Republicans are their trusted partners in governance.

    Despicable.

  2. Geezer says:

It’s too bad that Mike Pence is so insecure about his homosexuality that he has to take it out on gays and lesbians who accept who they are.

Indianapolis does a lot of conventions due to it’s central location. A large Cosplay convention has already said that they will likely cancel their annual Gen Con in Indy if this goes through.

And the NCAA is threatening to no longer have events there.

I was reading about the Cosplay convention (good for them!) and it was pointed out that they signed a contract to hold their convention there until 2020 (I think that’s the date). Question: Would a law like this allow them to break the contract? I’m not a lawyer, but this law could impact who attended the convention (possibly hurting attendance) and wouldn’t the initial contract be based on existing laws? What I’m saying (poorly) is that if a LBGT group booked a convention and then this law was passed would they have to honor the contract, or would there be grounds for breaking the contract due to new rules?

  5. Prop Joe says:

@Pandora: Couldn’t the Cos-Players just say that their “religion” forbids them from honoring contracts constructed by bigoted assholes, thereby negating their need to honor the contract? I mean, shit, we’ve got a large number of people in this country who, despite it being 150 years since the Civil War, would enthusiastically support U.S. laws discriminating against swaths of their neighbors, be they black, gay, lesbian, Jewish, etc.

I hope I live long enough to see all of these assholes die with nothing by their side but the fear and hate upon which they built their lives.

  6. pandora says:

    I hear ya, Prop Joe!

I was just hoping there was a way to break this contract immediately – with immediate impact.

  7. Jason330 says:

I fucking knew it. This law is complete asshatery.

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) was pressed by conservative radio host if something happened in Indiana to justify signing an anti-gay religious freedom bill into law. Pence said he wasn’t aware of any recent examples.

  8. bamboozer says:

Clock is ticking on stupidity like this, social conservatives have lost big yet again but remain in deep denial, and the usual hatred. Pence and his state will be dragged into court and the states name will be dragged in the dirt, all for a game of far right fantasy and fever.

These people are just as scary as the Muslims they obsess on.

  10. Another Mike says:

The Final Four will be in Indianapolis this year, but you can guarantee the NCAA will not be back there as long as this is the law. The last thing they need is a bunch of socially aware college students threatening not to play if it’s in Indy. Also the NCAA headquarters moved from Kansas to Indiana several years ago. Could it move again?
