Idiot Republican Congressman Pete Sessions says Obamacare to cost $5 million per covered person

Filed in National by on March 25, 2015

House Rules Committee Chairman Pete Sessions (R-Texas) claimed Tuesday that ObamaCare will cost $5 million per enrolled person. Sessions cited an overall estimate from House Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price (R-Ga.) that ObamaCare will cost $108 billion.

Sessions then calculate the per person cost of ObamaCare by dividing $108 billion by 12 million, and arrived at $5 million.

“If you just do simple multiplication, 12 million into $108 billion, we’re talking literally every single recipient would be costing this government more than $5 million per person for their insurance. It’s staggering,” Sessions said.

However, $108 billion divided by 12 million is only $9,000.

Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.), the top Democrat on the House Rules Committee immediately dismissed the $5 million claim.

“Nobody ever paid $5 million for anybody’s health care in a single year. It’s the most atrocious thing I think I’ve heard on this floor,” Slaughter said.

Mr. and Ms. America, these are the people you’ve entrusted your Congress to. They’re the people who are writing your budget,” Slaughter said.

Meanwhile back in Delaware Tom Carper and John Carney maintain that Republicans are trustworthy partners in governance.

Well, at least the adjective he used was accurate. The calculation was indeed “simple.”

Consider this, sometime today Sessions will be making phone calls for money from big donors and somebody going write a check to that guy.

If Markell were in Congress, he’d be telling everyone that they didn’t have Common Core in place where Sessions went to school.

  3. Anonymous says:

On average, the cost of Obamacare has increased 49% per person. That’s according to Forbes. I’m sure there is others that will have different numbers.

I liked Rep. Louise Slaughter’s response. No need to try and tart it up.

“Mr. and Ms. America, these are the people you’ve entrusted your Congress to. They’re the people who are writing your budget,” Slaughter said.

That’s the same math they use to calculate the benefits of tax cuts.

  6. Geezer says:

@Anonymous: Those are individual-market premiums, which were notorious for enormous increases before Obamacare.

    Enjoy your cherries.

What sessions said is idiotic, but not scary because it is a mistake and not true. The scary part is the true part, $9000 per each enrolled person, that is scary, personally I have zero interest in paying for free loaders health care. I have been drawing a paycheck since I was 14. No one is ever going to convince me that we workers should pay for stuff the freeloaders want to have, including healthcare.

  9. Geezer says:

You also stopped developing intellectually at 14, which is why you’re the imbecile you are.

“No one is ever going to convince me that we workers should pay for stuff the freeloaders want to have, including healthcare.”

Who do you think is paying for emergency rooms which have treating the indigent for years? You don’t think your hospital bills reflect that cost? I’m not going to quibble with your philosophy. I think everyone should pay their own way. But the fact of life is, there are many who cannot pay their own way and for years they’ve been treated at hospitals for routine medical care because hospitals cannot turn away anyone. But then you should know that and I can’t understand why you are unable (or unwilling) to integrate that information into your worldview. Everyone having medical insurance is not just a social good, it’s an economic good. And even if you deny the social good, why would you cut off your nose to spite your face? Yeah sure, it’s creeping socialism and we will all be slaves to the government and the elites. But surely you comprehend the economic benefits of a healthy population with access to decent healthcare because they are insured?

I’d love to follow Rusty Dills for a day and record the myriad ways he is freeloading, and collecting free stuff that I paid for.

Of course, even in the face of airtight, black and white evidence that he gets benefits from the government, he would not allow that it was mooching because he is one of the “good ones” (white people) who “deserves” (expects) it.

What always amazes me is how people like Rusty are fine with hurting certain business models. Hospitals taking a financial hit? Fine with him. And people getting plans on the ACA are working.

  13. Doc says:

Obmacare from day one is nothing more than “control and tax hidden under the pretense of providing affordable quality healthcare. The benchmark of socialism in
redistributing health and wealth. Punish success and reward failure….power and greed the (2) driving forces.
