Jon Stewart.

The mocking sarcasm that laid bare much of the lies and hypocrisy and bias of the corporate media that was at the heart of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart will not die with the retirement of Jon Stewart. It will go on because it has to go on, it is needed, and hopefully the Daily Show is enough of an established franchise to allow that to happen. But it will not be the same.

But such is life. Things change and are not the same all the time. Remember how important Keith Olbermann was at a certain time? We and he moved on, and so will we now. Colbert will be back soon as the host of the Late Show on CBS. I hope Jon Stewart likewise doesn’t disappear forever. All true. Yes, Stewart at times went out of his way to punch hippies in order to maintain his “objectivity” street cred, but all TV progressives do that. He will be missed.

Jon Stewart is brilliant. I don’t watch a lot of late night TV, but the dozen or so episodes or partial episodes of his show that I have seen were outright genius. And, often times, he did seem to bash conservatives more than liberals, but that is ok because, that is what we are supposed to do to politicians, how else can we get back at them for hardly ever doing their job. The thing I was most amazed with however, is from time to time, I would be having a serious conversation with people about politics, and they would be openly referencing the daily show as a show where they got their serious news content. I have always wondered, did these people not realize this was a comedy show.

On a more serious note, as we have all heard by now, NBC has suspended Brian Williams for six months for telling one to many “whoppers”. If only we could apply that same sanction to the President of the United States!

Yes. Bush and Cheney should be in jail. I’m surprised, but pleased that Rusty has come around on that.

There was more truth in a half hour of the Daily Show than in a two years worth of Fox News.
