Happy New Year, Murder Town USA
People can bury their heads in the sand and say Newsweek was being hyperbolic, but when the state’s top prosecutor says “Murder Town” is accurate, you’ve got problems.

Steve Benen counters the narrative that 2014 was a bad year for the country and President Obama specifically:
This was the year the economy improved to its strongest level in over a decade and the Affordable Care Act succeeded beyond anyone’s expectations. It was the year the president scored foreign policy breakthroughs with Cuba and China, and advanced a landmark immigration policy.
This was the year Obama filled much of the federal judiciary with his nominees, deftly handled some important crises, freed American prisoners in North Korea, and sharply reduced the number of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay.
It’s also the year the president saw his approval rating jump, bringing him in line with Reagan’s support at a comparable point in his presidency.
I don’t doubt that Obama wishes the midterm elections had gone the other way, but Beltway conventional wisdom notwithstanding, maybe 2014 wasn’t such a disaster for the president after all?

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), the No. 3 Republican in the House, addressed a group of white supremacists and neo-Nazis in 2002, the New York Times reports.
“Mr. Scalise made his remarks to the European-American Unity and Rights Organization, which was founded two years earlier by David Duke, the former Ku Klux Klan leader and Louisiana politician… It was unclear what the revelation means for Mr. Scalise’s future in the House leadership. Speaker John A. Boehner declined to comment on the reports.”
Uh. We knew who David Duke was in 2002, and if you didn’t know who he was, or you didn’t know that “European-American Unity and Rights Organization” is straight up code for the KKK, then you are too stupid to draw a salary at any level of government and you must be forced out immediately. The truth here is Scalise is a racist white supremacists, as are a lot of conservatives down in the South, most of home are now Republicans. So it was quite natural for him to speak to people with like minds.

So which Kent County resident didn’t vote? Because you are directly responsible for an election ending in a tie. Delaware Republicans called the ruling a victory for democracy.
A victory for democracy that the GOP will appeal. LOL. Seriously, the GOP is appealing a decision that they call a victory for democracy, because I suppose they are against democracy. I guess they did not think through the PR aspect of that.
So what happens now?

“The mayor is not in any way to be treated with people turning their backs. It doesn’t matter whether you like the mayor or you don’t like the mayor, you have to respect the mayor’s position.” — Rudy Giuliani, turning back from his fanning the flames over the last week. But according to his and the Police’s logic, he is criticizing the Police negatively, and thus he must condemned and destroyed immediately. Remember, we are a police state where the police are always, always right, and all criticism of them is always, always treasonous.
The DOE Education Survey
The Delaware House Dems have sent out an email asking for responses to the Department of Education’s most recent survey concerning a new grading system for schools. Take the survey by December 30, 2014. The results of the survey will be posted online. I will note, having taken the survey, that the survey is framed as if a grading system is a good idea and a done deal.

2013 Progressive of the Year Sarah McBride now has a quadcopter drone with a Go Pro camera and posted a couple of awesome aerial photos, like this one of Rockford Tower in Wilmington. So now drone aerial photos are my new favorite thing. And there is no truth to the rumors that Ms. McBride purchased the quadcopter to carry out surgical drone strikes on enemy targets in Sussex County.

An economy that is both strong and viewed so by the public changes 2016. Hillary Clinton no longer has to point out differences with Obama. She will begin to point out similarities. And she is already doing so.
The Washington Post reports Hillary Clinton “is working hard to shore up support among liberals in hopes of tamping down a serious challenge from the left in the battle for the 2016 nomination.”
“Clinton has aligned herself firmly with President Obama since the November midterms on a range of liberal-friendly issues, including immigration, climate change and opening diplomatic relations with Cuba. In an impassioned human rights speech this month, she also condemned the CIA’s use of harsh interrogation tactics and decried cases of apparent police brutality against minorities.”
“The recent statements suggest a concerted effort by Clinton to appeal to the Democratic Party’s most activist, liberal voters, who have often eyed her with suspicion and who would be crucial to her securing the party’s nomination.”

There are moments of soaring moral clarity and inspiration; there are long periods of drift or laziness or passivity; and there are often very good fourth quarters. The 2008 campaign was an almost perfect coda: the sudden initial breakout, then a strange listlessness as he allowed the Clintons to come back in New Hampshire, turning the race into a long and grueling battle for delegates, then a final denouement when he made up with the Clintons and stormed into the White House. Or think of healthcare reform: a clear early gamble, followed by a truly languorous and protracted period of negotiation and posturing, and then a breakthrough. Or marriage equality: an excruciating period of ambivalence followed by a revolution. On climate: a failed cap and trade bill … followed by real tough fuel emissions standards, new carbon rules from the EPA and an agreement with China.”
“If you were to track this pattern – strong start, weak middle, winning final streak – throughout his entire presidency, you might have expected his worst year to be the one when he was just re-elected and had the wind at his back. And you would be right. 2013 was truly awful. But you’d also expect his final years to be strong.”
