Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), the No. 3 Republican in the House, addressed a group of white supremacists and neo-Nazis in 2002, the New York Times reports.

“Mr. Scalise made his remarks to the European-American Unity and Rights Organization, which was founded two years earlier by David Duke, the former Ku Klux Klan leader and Louisiana politician… It was unclear what the revelation means for Mr. Scalise’s future in the House leadership. Speaker John A. Boehner declined to comment on the reports.”

Uh. We knew who David Duke was in 2002, and if you didn’t know who he was, or you didn’t know that “European-American Unity and Rights Organization” is straight up code for the KKK, then you are too stupid to draw a salary at any level of government and you must be forced out immediately. The truth here is Scalise is a racist white supremacists, as are a lot of conservatives down in the South, most of home are now Republicans. So it was quite natural for him to speak to people with like minds.

The two ethnic groups in the US that carry the most shame when they turn white supremacist are the Irish and Italians. Both groups suffered from bigotry, partly because of their Catholicism, but when given the opportunity to become “white,” too many of both groups jumped at the chance.

    Whitey back to Europe

And on a lighter note color me astounded that super arrogant Michael Grimm is going to resign from the house after his felony conviction for tax fraud, after denying that he would. Oh to have been at the meeting he had with Boehner!

The Irish and Italians are somehow responsible?

You do realize the Klan is anti-catholic, right?

Scalise got $1000.00 campaign donation from the ED (and advisor to David Duke) of this white supremacist group.

The Racist Meltdown Over Steve Scalise (this is choice).

“The Irish and Italians are somehow responsible?”

Never said that. Read again. Too many w/Irish and Italian heritage have joined up with groups that formerly discriminated against them. “Whites” once used Irish and Italians as demonstration that skin color wasn’t the only basis for ethnic sorting. Shame on Irish and Italians who do the same in their turn.

Look at the makeup of the pro-NYPD crowd: Giuliani and Lynch. For his part, Scalise boasts his membership in an Italian/American group. I’m Italian/American myself, and I run across more conservatives than liberals from that culture.

Not as questionable as the source for the Slate article.

Will this fudging and lying about the initial event convince conservatives that Scalise should resign? I recall Anthony Weiner was considered unfit for further service because of his serial lies about his weiner photos.

If not, conservatives apparently consider courting white supremacists less shameful than sharing dick pics with consenting adults — which figures, because more conservatives lean white supremacist than take below-the-belt selfies.
