Crazy Sheriff Not Done Being Crazy

Filed in National by on September 30, 2014

Sussex County Sheriff Jeff Christopher, who wasted untold taxpayer dollars trying to sue the state after the state refused to let him set up his own police force, and who embarrassed the citizenry with his sovereign citizen and sovereign sheriff nonsense (i.e. the highest constitutional officer in the land is God and then the Sheriff, and then the President and everyone else), just announced on the Dan Gaffney show downstate (is that still on the air?) that he is running a write-in reelection campaign.

You see, in the Republican Primary earlier this month, Republican Robert Lee defeated Sheriff Christopher by 21 votes, or 50.1% to 49.9%. Christopher demanded a recount and he got it, and the numbers did not change.

So now he will inflict his sore loser-dom and his teabagger insanity on his once more, with this write in campaign. The question now is whether he splits the GOP vote enough to allow Democrat Beau Gooch, the Lewes Police Chief, to win. He just might. That is just what Sussex County needs. An African American sheriff. I wonder if conservatives will suddenly reverse themselves on the need for a separate Sussex police force should that happen.

    Let the games begin!

This has to be great news for Gooch. Christopher’s 20 or so true believers may be enough to swing it. Especially is Christopher goes ballistic on Lee. (and why wouldn’t he?)

Christopher will never be done being crazy. The question would be when will we be free of craziness. Similar to physician heal thyself, the DE GOP and the SC GOP specifically, has to rid themselves of those elements that do not have that have jumped off the edge. There is no cure. Sure, every once in awhile, someone will come in from the fringe after realizing they are part of the problem, but in general, it’s a symbiotic relationship, one crazy feeding another, serving to reinforce the craziness.

It is possible that a quarantine would isolate the condition and eventually it would die like a parasite without host, but since they have the ability to reproduce, they have the ability to add more to their ranks. I don’t know that there is a real solution except that sane people can and should recognize the symptoms and immediately inoculate themselves by refusing to associate with them or contribute to their economic well being. Ostracizing them is about the only effective means of dealing with them.

As far as the election goes, either Gooch or Lee could satisfactorily perform the duties. But voting for Gooch could send a message to the SC GOP that they need to clean house.

  4. Jason330 says:

How are they going to clean house when they have a zillionaire madman pumping money into the PACs of crazy people?

People, BTW, who have never won anything and are now content to live off this local wingnut welfare.

The recount was automatic as the totals were within the 0.5% threshold. Gaffney is a Delmarva Broadcasting (the company that owns WDEL) employee and is still pretty influential in the market. Love the Friday broadcast.

I would bet that Gooch wins now and I can’t get a certain scene from Blazing Saddles out of my head.

“since they have the ability to reproduce, they have the ability to add more to their ranks.”

True, but remember that even Lindsay Graham has said the GOP can’t manufacture enough angry white men to keep winning elections.

He’s getting nearer to winning lol

  8. mouse says:

What is it with the rednecks and their snake flags and this sheriff fetish? Do they think he’s going to round up all the illegals and send them home or something?

  9. Geezer says:

@Mouse: If you remember how you thought as a child, apply that “logic” to any subject and you have the wingnut Republican position on it.

  10. SussexAnon says:

Meanwhile over at HuffPo, the headline reads “Mitt Won’t Quit.”

    Coincidence?

  11. mouse says:

    Makes sense now

This just proves that Sheriff Jeff is an egotistical, self centered person who was never really a part of the Republican Party. He used them to get elected in 2010, took from their coffers and support people, but now that he’s not getting HIS way, he stabs them in the back, spurns the process of election and desperately wants to cling to the glory of travelling all over America whining about powers the claims he lost (but never had) and damages the winning candidate from his own party. He should be kicked out of the Republican Party, and R’s should stick together to help get rid of him. But, it is Sussex County, and crazy can be found all over the place so who knows what is next. I have always suspected he was a kook since first meeting him, and now I am convinced to the marrow of my bones. Imagine what he’d be like if he actually got the “supreme power” and sovereignty he dreams of. If he ever got that kind of power, he’d come after people like me, I truly believe.

  13. anon says:

Beau Gooch is a stand up guy who isn’t crazy at all. Let’s get him elected!

  14. Geezer says:

“he … desperately wants to cling to the glory of travelling all over America whining about powers the claims he lost (but never had)”

Sounds like a solid wingnut living if he can stand all the bus travel.

” If he ever got that kind of power, he’d come after people like me, I truly believe.”

Well, if you can read, write and think coherently, he’s bound to have suspicions about you.

  15. Truth Teller says:

I see Cry Baby Barney Fife is still at it with a write in, however, let us not forget that the Teabaggers here in slower lower Delaware can’t spell their own names let alone his. And XXX’s on the ballot don’t count.

  16. bobsmith6019 says:

Just remember Sussex County supported Christine O’Donnell. So look out he may win.

  17. Old Sussex County Native says:

To BobSmith6019: you are absolutely right, a place that elected COD just might be crazy enough to put the nutty guy back in. Does he have to get a majority of votes, or just more than the others? Would there be a run-off or just 34% of the votes cast to get him over the top, what with three candidates. This is bad, if the latter is true because you’d have a sheriff the majority didn’t want, but because of a three way race the minority vote could win? Doesn’t seem right!
