  1. John Manifold says:

I feel terrible for Don Blakey.

  2. Prop Joe says:

Right there with you, John. Blakey was a stand-up guy with the type of work experience sorely lacking in Leg Hall. If Yearick winds up defeating Yacucci, the 34th will have replaced Blakey with another banking/finance guy, not to mention what Yearick said he’d like to see done to the DPAS teacher eval system.

  3. painesme says:

So long, Sheriff Christopher. Can’t say that you’ll be missed.

  4. Brock Landers says:

Listening to WGMD this morning one would thought a puppy punching epidemic was upon us as the Christopher loss was being discussed.

  5. Delaware Dem says:

On Twitter last night it was hysterical. Delaware Patriot was screaming about voter fraud and that the machines were hacked. Much popcorn was consumed.

  6. cassandra_m says:

How long does it take to do a recount? Because there is more entertainment at hand for that period of time, at any rate.

  7. cassandra_m says:

Sherry Dorsey Walker has asked for a recount in her race against Marshall, which I think the DOE will do even though the margin doesn’t invoke the automatic recount.

  8. Not long on the recounts. Results have to be certified in 48 hours. The machine totals are what they are, so it’s just the absentee ballots that need to be recounted.

This according to Elaine Manlove on WDEL. She will grant the Wilmington recount, said that she doesn’t remember turning down a request.

  9. SussexAnon says:

According to the Cape Gazette, the recount will starts on Thurs. Sept. 11 at 10 am. There were 10,200 approx votes cast. The recount will hand count the absentee ballots and voting machine votes will not be recounted. Dept. of Elections website shows 479 absentee votes cast for Sheriff.

It also mentions state law allows the recount can take place if requested, if the margin is less than .5%, the margin was .2%.

  10. Dana Garrett says:

It’s impossible to feel sorry for all the losers since some have that as their perpetual status. For example, I’m confident that Mike Protack has already landed on his feet and is contemplating his next electoral defeat.

  11. Jason330 says:

    Via the tip line:

“The other thing I wonder if this run isn’t basically a visibility exercise for Valenzuela, an effort to not disappear from the voter’s minds while she gets geared up for something bigger in 2016.”

Although they are both privately registered, if you look up the ‘Who Is’ info (public information on who owns and manages a domain), you will see that both sher2014.com and sher2016.com were registered on the same day at the same place.

  12. cassandra_m says:

One recount is done — the Dorsey-Walker v Marshall contest maintains the 37 vote lead after recounting the absentee ballots. Congratulations to Senator Marshall! Still trying to work out why this was so close.

  13. Cass: I think it could well be that Marshall, like several of the older candidates, do not adapt well to social media, and have a comfort level with the kind of campaigns they’ve previously waged. Sherry Dorsey Walker is skilled in the use of social media, and appeared to use it very effectively.

Marshall’s campaigns have generally been more of the mom-and-pop kitchen table variety. The kind of campaigns that he has run are close to being phased out.

Just glad he won. Should be a total free-for-all for that seat in four years.

  14. cassandra m says:

No, I don’t think it was social media. I’m on FB and see the posts. Many of the folks involved with the late promotion of her couldn’t vote for her. On the other hand, you could flip that around and say that all of the signs, the door-knocking (my house was touched 3 times that I know of), the cascade of mailed lit pieces are nothing in the face of social media. And we both know that isn’t true. I’m checking in with the key bits of the Marshall Team, but my sense of it was that Sherry was executing a church strategy. I think that she used her church contacts to spread the word and generate excitement. She’s very committed to her church and her faith as you could tell by talking to her for a minute. And I think that her connections in the local AfAm church community are deep. It is the only explanation that makes sense at this point for a campaign that was effectively running on vapor.

I’ll change that assessment once I talk to more folks, if I need to.

  15. Thanks. If she succeeded in increasing turnouts through her church activity, then that’s a good thing overall. Hope it continues.

  16. hmm says:

El Som sorry to burst your bubble, especially in this years low turnout primary, social media is not persuading or driving voters to the polls.

  17. Truth Teller says:

Just like all Teabaggers sheriff Barney fife turns out to be a BIG CRY BABY besides being a right wing nut
