Saw the movie “If I Stay” last weekend, real tear jerker but great cello and rock music. Yes, cello, probably copied from a Yo Yo Ma recital of a piece from Bach. Check out Willamette Stone on Utube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQFzSX76k44
and five more of the songs from the movie. One was actually a cover of a Smashing Pumpkins tune from a few years back. (For you old head bangers that haven’t figured out that it is bad for you)

  2. Thanks, Jim. Apparently the ‘band’ is fictitious, reflecting the book/movie. Although the movie was shot in Vancouver, the band’s name references a Portland site. One of the actors apparently did the music, impressive:

My wife and I will be visiting Portland again (we love the Pacific Northwest), and we’ll try to check out the Willamette Stone.

    But still worth a listen!

Been to Seattle but not Portland. The lead in the movie played all the stuff. As a guitar player myself, I have to appreciate the songs.
First music in a long time that evoked the free-wheeling music of the sixties!

    You win.

I LOVED “Seventeen Acres” Joseph LeMay. I’m such a sucker for the Cowboy Junkies style waltz-y two part harmonies and brushes on snare.

    Thanks for that link.
