    Love it

  2. gdgm+ says:

You’re all aware that BB is a parody site, right?

  3. cassandra_m says:

Why, yes we do. And GOP parody is among our favorite types of parody. Surpassed only by GOP christianist parody. What’s your point?

  4. Dandy Andy says:

I’m aware that BB is a parody site- that video is a perfect example of Poe’s Law, which states is that without a clear indication of the author’s intent, it’s impossible to tell the difference between an expression of sincere extremism and a parody of sincere extremism.

  5. Geezer says:

Andy: Thanks for that. I hadn’t heard of Poe’s Law, though of course the concept predates his pithily expressed original. As one might expect, Poe’s formulation sprang from an online thread at a creationist web site:

“Originally Posted by Pete Harcoff “Good thing you included the winky. Otherwise people might think you are serious.”

Response – POE’S LAW: Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is uttrerly impossible to parody a Creationist in such a way that someone won’t mistake for the genuine article.”

The corollary is that Betty Bowers could easily get elected in many congressional districts, and would put a scare into Louie Gohmert if she primaried him.

I used to be a frequent visitor to the site, but, frankly, it got to be too true to be funny anymore.

  7. cassandra_m says:

Thanks Andy! I hadn’t heard that before. Mrs Bowers and the Landmark Baptist Church used to post occasionally at the Daily Kos where she sometimes attracted conservatives trying to defend her (while the rest were laughing).

  8. pandora says:

@ gdgm: Parody is the truth in this case. Betty Bowers nails the Christian Right. Hypocrites, every single one.

  9. gdgm+ says:

Thanks to ‘Dandy Andy’ and ‘Frank’ for their responses. DA in particular helped me realize why I don’t “get” Jon Stewart and the ‘Daily Show’ either…

  10. cassandra_m says:

    Lame. Seriously.

If you’re going to survive here, you need to get better game than that.
