Brenda Mayrack Lures ‘Bulo Out of the Shadows

Filed in Delaware by on July 31, 2014

Other than doing door-to-door with Bryan Townsend and hosting Mitch Crane at the Arden Fair, I’ve not been out front in actively campaigning for political candidates since I took my leave of the Delaware General Assembly.

Brenda Mayrack has changed that. To the extent that I’ll be on her Host Committee for this upcoming event:

That’s right. As a host, I’m ponying up $100. Why?

Because, for all intents and purposes, we haven’t had an auditor, let alone a competent auditor, for however long Tom “Suspendered Disbelief” Wagner has been in office. I’ve argued on this blog for years that we really need a competent auditor. A competent auditor can and will save the state lots of dollars. It’s not even mostly about waste, fraud, and abuse, it’s about working with agencies to save the state money while not cutting services. I used to be the Research Analyst for the Joint Sunset Committee. I read reports from auditors throughout the country that led to genuine cost savings simply by identifying and correcting inefficiencies in state agencies from coast to coast. I tried to help apply them as best I could through our Sunset reviews of state agencies. But it’s really what a competent state auditor should have been doing all along.

I think that anyone who has ever worked with Brenda Mayrack knows that she’s incredibly competent, hard-working, and committed to being the state auditor, as opposed to playing one at the State Fair. Plus, she’s very, very smart.

I believe in her so much that I’m more than willing to help host this event along with people who it’s possible, just possible, I’ve occasionally criticized on this very site. No criticism this time. We’re all just coming together for a common purpose.

As Delawareans, we can’t let this opportunity pass us by. Help us elect a state auditor who will save the state far more money than what the Auditor’s office spends. Please stop by this event, meet Brenda,  make a contribution, and perhaps even talk pro rasslin’ with Yours Truly. I just might be the one in the lucha libre mask…

  1. Mitch Crane says:

I am honored that the three candidates you have helped since you left the General Assembly are me, Byan Townsend and Brenda Mayrack. Though we will not know how effective I would have been if I had been elected Insurance Commissioner, we do know that Bryan Townsend is an excellent senator and I am confident that Brenda Mayrack will be a hardworking and diligent Auditor.

I remember that day at the Arden Fair well. Thank you, El Som, for a great lunch.

Mitch did you get your passport stamped coming north of the ditch?

  3. Mitch Crane says:

    I have a tourist visa

I can tell you that Brenda is one of the hardest working candidates I’ve ever encountered. She is committed to winning this and bringing cost savings to the tax payers of Delaware. What ‘Bulo said. He’s right. A hard working and smart State Auditor of Accounts can make a difference for all of us. In these economic times we can’t afford to pass up a chance to elect a talented and dedicated person who is willing to take on this task. Mayrack for Auditor. Turn out and support her, please.

  5. HoHum says:

Our current Auditor has fulfilled his two year work obligation. He only does one audit every two years right before an election. It usually (always) paints an unattractive picture of at least one democrat.

  6. It used to be Norman Oliver.

Hey, whatever happened to ol’ Stormin’ Norman?

Wagner almost always singles out a black person, like that Sussex Vo-Tech guy earlier this year. Dog whistles? Why, yes, yes I think so.

Hands off Dick Cathcart and Vince Lofink’s son though….we’re talkin’ white Rethuglicans.

The guy has never actually been, you know, a State Auditor. Just a good old boy who wears suspenders. And collects a nice paycheck for doing nothing.

  7. Republican David says:

I have nothing bad to say about Brenda. I don’t see what would make her such a great state auditor, but you guys have put up a lot worse. She seems to be intelligent and have basic competence for the job. I like her. It would be a good race about positive things, but you guys can’t let it be about that because Tom has a great record of service and you don’t want to take the chance that you might lose.

So you trot out lies, smears, and distortions. Not enough, toss in the race card. I hope Brenda knows the slimy company she is traveling with.

Tom Wagner is the best state auditor we ever had. He professionalized the office. He has saved us untold millions. He has broken corruption. He is the one guy that keeps us honest as a state. We need Tom Wagner.

  8. Assertions w/o citations. The truth is that Tom Wagner not only covered up Dick Cathcart’s misdeeds at Del State, he recommended him for a golden parachute job in Delaware City BEFORE he deigned to release his whitewash on Super Bowl weekend. Would you like me to once again link to the citations? I’d be happy to do it. You only have to ask.

Instead of going after Vince Lofink’s kid, he handed it off to Richard Cordrey who, whatever his dubious qualifications for Secretary of Finance might have been, was neither an investigator nor an auditor.

Wagner may have ‘saved us untold millions’. Because such savings have never been identified, much less ‘told’.

He’s played the part of auditor for a long time now. Time for a real one.

RD, please tell us why ‘(w)e need Tom Wagner. I’d really like to know.
