Game of Thrones Recap – Spoilers of a sort

Filed in National by on June 16, 2014

This giant blonde women beat the Hound in a sword/stone fight. He was on his last legs anyway out of ennui and an infected bite. The Hound wanted to be killed outright, but the Hounds’s little buddy didn’t kill him, but she laid her patented empty/scornful look on him. She got on a ship after some words with a guy. They are sailing off for somewhere.

The dragons are turning out to be a bit of a pain in the ass for that young blonde queen – Danny Targaeion (SP?). She locked them up after they burned up some guys three year old child. Surprising arm strength Ms Targaeion (SP?) displayed locking the Dragons in 400 lb chains. Danny also has to let some slaves go back to being slaves, but on one year contracts. Hmmm. What else…? Oh yeah.

John Snow. He cremated his red head girlfriend. She wanted to go back to the cave with the hot tub in it just before she was killed last week. As I recall, that hot tub scene was a pretty good scene. Also, he met with the Wilding guy. Their chief. Then Stannis Baratheon (best name in the show by the way) came in and the wildings were about to all be killed but they decided to group up to kill the white walkers or something. I was a little sleepy so didn’t catch all of that.

Bran made it to the tree he had been looking for, but only after some skeletons from the Adventures of Hercules stabbed some people. Some of the Bran flakes (c 2014) were saved by a puckish little character. A three eyed raven plays a role, but I’m not really into the magic stuff in the show. Although if a magic scene is set in the hot tub cave, I’d probably pay a little more attention.

Peter Dinklage escaped thanks to his incest loving brother. He is in a crate on board a ship heading somewhere. The crate has holes cut in it in the manner of cartoon kangaroo transport crate of the type that usually lends itself to hijinx in cartoons. Prior to the crating, I thought he was going to find his incest loving sister in and kill her. Turns out he was out to murder his father, which he did. He also found his old lover, Shay (sp?) in his fathers bed and killed her too.

What I can’t understand is why some people actually like that show.

    It’s not only bad… It’s rank bad.

Oh no! I LOVE GoTs. And this is the worst recap I’ve ever read – sorry, J – still love you!

Last night’s episode (and most of the season) has been about lessons learned. The Hound taught Ayra well – remember the Hound was always on her kill list (because he killed her friend), and she knew exactly what a mercy killing was. She let him die (does he die? His brother the Mountain isn’t dead yet!) that way because she learned his lessons.

Dany (mother of dragons) is learning that not everything is black and white/good and evil – the freer of slaves has just allowed slaves to be enslaved again and she’s enslaved two of her dragons.

Sansa played the game by flying under the radar, but is now an active participate (throwing her lot in with Little Finger).

Jon Snow has an extremely flexible code of ethics – he’s becoming quite the politician. Notice how he didn’t tell Stannis Baratheon why he met with Mance (to kill him!) and how he used his father’s name to gain favor.

The King outside the Wall isn’t attacking for nothing. Winter is Coming! He wants his people behind the Wall for protection. Who wouldn’t?

And Tyrion wasn’t going to kill his sister – he’s going to confront his father, Tywin Lannister. Tywin’s death flips the chessboard, since he was the only one keeping the incest rumors at bay. Tommen is not the heir to the throne. (Okay, I might be too into this show!)

Here’s my advice (and take it for what it’s worth): Focus on the game, not the players.

And… give me a call Jason if you want to know more. I’m kinda obsessed.

And, Jason, you HAVE to go back and watch the previous seasons.

(And I’m one of those dreaded Sussex summer residents now – you know, one of the people whose money is okay while the locals b*tch about us, but need us desperately in order to function! 😉 – call when you’re down and I’ll bring you up to speed on GoTs!)

  4. Dave says:

My opinion that overall, the casting, acting, and storyline are excellent with some obvious stand out scenes such as the Red Wedding. My only complaint is when they deviate from the books, which annoys the crap out of me. Artistic license I suppose. For those who have not read the books, the show does not really do them justice, but then considering the immensity of the saga, no show could. Valar morghulis and read the books!

  5. SussexWatcher says:

I am still amazed at the people who are Watchers but not Readers. The show has no surprises for Readers, but does create some stunning visual references to aid the imagination. The scene where Daenerys frees the Unsullied and the dragon burns the slaver and torches the city is awesome.
