QOD — Where’s the Best BBQ in Delaware?

Filed in Delaware by on May 23, 2014

Actually, let’s make it this question — where’s the Best BBQ in two hours driving distance from Wilmington? Feel free to recommend places further away though — I was talking to a friend this morning about a day trip for BBQ.

Go!

There is a place on rt. 113 right before the Maryland line called Emings BBQ. They’ve been around a long time, but I believe Fat Daddy’s in Georgetown is the best.

    Bethany Blues is fake BBQ.

Oh Phoebes! (The guy who drives the truck between Smyrna and Middletown) is good but very inconsistent. Young’s Barbecue is the best near me.

My house. Otherwise, you have to drive to Williamsburg and go to Pierce’s–a day trip!
    It’s incredible.

Oh wait–Red, Hot, and Blue in Annapolis is great too.

Besides my house (looks askance at Joanne), the best place that meets your criteria is Durham’s, just across the state line in Elkton (on Fletchwood Rd.).

Where Pigs Fly in Dover is great!

Oh no, you don’t! (looks askance at Joanne and LG) At my house! In fact, I’m cooking up 9lbs of ribs today. I’m sensing a rib-off in the making!

C’mon, you guys — my house is definitely the place (looking askance at Pandora, LG and Joanne), but we’re looking for a road trip to discover some hidden gem. If there are any. I *am* glad to know that Durham’s Best just moved — I stop at that Wawa on my way to Balto or DC and their old place across the street definitely looked abandoned. So glad they aren’t far away. I like their food — their BBQ sauce isn’t quite up to their food, but still.

Well it’s a bit more than 2 hours away but the best ever we’ve eaten is in the only restaurant in Arnold Nebraska (620 people). Can’t remember the name but it’s near the only red light in town. That’s a road trip worth taking!!!

Sorry, Cassandra, but my spouses east Texas brisket with a Jamaican rub is nothing short of amazing. It’s in her 7th generation Texan genes. But frankly, Famous Dave’s right here in Wilmington (I know, a chain not based here) is often enough to satisfy my craving. I love their rib ends.

OK! Dinner at Stan’s house! 😉

But Famous Daves? Really? I’ve only been twice (once in Philly by Ikea and once in Bethesda or Rockville or thereabouts) and I don’t remember much about it other than it was alot of food.

There is a spectacular place for smoked meats (not BBQ) in Philly called Fette Sau. It’s spendy, by ohsogood. The smoked short ribs are worth the entire trip. The brisket and pork belly are great too. They also have a really fine Burnt Ends Baked Beans which even I (not a fan of baked beans!) will eat.

Yesterday, we went up to Cottman Ave to Sweet Lucy’s Smokehouse. The ribs were really good, but I was less impressed with the sides (collards, mac and cheese). Except for the Brussels sprouts with bacon. Yum!

Hey Geek, Pandora, Cass, and Stan–no looks askance—Mi casa es su casa—and I don’t do ribs!! So bowing out of this one!

Now cass–my BLT Sundays will soon be starting up, and I am loving the varieties of mayonnaise now available that really add to this summer delight. I’m not seeing them do real well in marketing around here, so I hope the choices are still around for “the season”. Tomatoes taking off……can’t wait!!

And Geek…Elkton? Really? Whenever I think of Elkton it’s brides and beer (remember the ol’ “over the line” age discrepancy?). Now, I guess it’s brides, beer, and bar-b-que!! Will have to check it out.

Pandora…I would NEVER enter any kind of “food-off” with your effortless talent submitted. Just be the judge OK? Otherwise, the blue prize winner could just be retired w/ your name on it.

And Stan….your wife’s nomination is downright heart-warming, honest, and generous. Good on you, for not “passing” hers as yours! Hope to meet you sometime–if the DeLib crew like you, than I know your recommendation must be solid.

And lastly, how ’bout a potluck sometime soon everyone–before the summer takes off? Everyone could bring their favorite scratch summer recipe, and not the quick 2lbs of potatoe salad they grabbed at Super G befoe heading out—that sadly, I am seeing so many of these get-togethers turn into…….I’ll help arrange–but I can’t do grill stuff. Anybody??? Thanks.

I tried the place yesterday. It’s actually over the Maryland line at the junction of 113 and 610. The decor was horrible, but the food was passable. Their Brunswick stew was the best thing we got of the dozen or so things we ordered.

If you go there, do takeout.
