Kiss me I’m English

Filed in National by on April 22, 2014

Happy Saint George’s Day everyone! Grab a pint glass of your favorite English beer, or fix yourself a nice gin and tonic, and enjoy your pretend Englishness today – preferably with the aid of alcohol. There will be readings from Douglas Adams and a half-assed game of cricket later.

Until today, Saint Georges Day hasn’t really be celebrated around here and I mean to fix that. We are Americans and holidays are what we do. So let the word go forth – today we are all English.

PS – See you on November 30th and you better be wearing your kilt, because on this Saint Andrews Day, (and all future Saint Andrew’s Day) we will not be fucking around. Saint David’s Day (March 1st) can go piss up a rope. I never liked the Welsh.

I was just warming up to Guy Fawkes Day, and now this? OK I guess, as long as I don’t have to watch soccer.

Cricket is the slowest game on the planet. Spare me, even with my English name.

Cricket is no slower than baseball… but admittedly it is a slow game. Very difficult to play though. The bowler can hit the batsmen with impunity (90mph+) and the fielders have to catch the ball sans gloves to dismiss the batsmen.

Full disclosure, I don’t like cricket. I love it.

And ‘SAH-kerr’ is called football. I know you guys hate hearing it. Sometimes the truth hurts. Get over it.

Today is also William Shakespeare’s birthday, He would be 450 years old today. That means more drinking I think.
