Missouri Lawmaker Wants To Make Biology Class An Elective

Fact:  You cannot teach biology without evolution.

Several years ago, my 10th grade son was taking AP Bio.  My Bio major (and quite successful immunologist today) brother asked to see his textbook.  When I (art major sister) asked why, my brother said, “Just wanted to make sure the textbook started off with evolution.  It does, so all is fine.”

Which brings us to this nonsense:

    The kids of stupid people use to have a way out – education. Good to see that stupid people are doing everything in their power to keep their kids stupid. Not.

    The kids of people upset by “government schools forcing evolution on our children” have another way out. It’s called private school or homeschooling. Have your kids taught whatever you want, but don’t expect me to pay for it.

    But we WILL have to pay for it.
    Single payer health care will become a reality, then when one of these kids sticks a fork in their eye because God is with them, and some “liber marxist nazi” told them not to…… you see where this is goin.
    One way or another, they will find a way to make their stupid effect you.

    So how if I throw a bomb in this conversation? I just looked at Missouri’s Common Core standards and evolution is part of the curriculum (pdf) and apparently part of the high-stakes testing done as a result. So how do they justify dismantling their own standards, that their own silly testing regime is based on?
