Delaware Political (Almost) Weekly: Feb. 1-7, 2014

Filed in Delaware by on February 7, 2014

Yeah, I skipped a week because (almost) nothing happened. And, at first glance, the only news seemed not so newsworthy to me. However, on second glance, that Sussex County je ne sais quoi has come through again.

1. Not Newsworthy News Seems, if Not Newsworthy, Nutty.

OK, the only item that passed for news the previous week was that Some Guy named Harry Orvin Strickler, Jr. had filed for Sussex County District 5.  An R in what is currently Vance Phillips’ district. Didn’t think much of it, I had to work, I blew it off. And then I googled the name. Found this.  Maybe it means nothing, but that’s a pretty hefty judgment of over $329,000 levied on the would-be future councilman by the Delaware Superior Court.  Perhaps, like others in Sussex County, this guy believes that the government has no legal authority. Which would make him an ideal R candidate in Sussex.  Are there no normal Rethuglicans in Sussex County considering running for office? This is a serious question.

2. Trey Paradee Draws an R Opponent.

While it’s possible that, under the right circumstances. first-term D Rep. Trey Paradee could be vulnerable, his opponent doesn’t appear to be much of a threat. R Peter Kramer has filed to challenge Paradee. Click here to learn a little more about Kramer.  “Keep More With Kramer”. Presumably both money and ‘personal freedoms’. For low-income voters, that’s “Keep Poor With Kramer”.  BTW, did any of you actually get a ‘kindergarten diploma’? Or would you even remember it if you did? Kramer did, and he does. Or at least, says he does.

Also, did you notice how his mission statement just…stops? Maybe he’ll add more as he thinks of it.

BTW, I notice that he didn’t mention that the family company for which he works (J. S. Kramer Inc., a construction company) has gotten serious money from state and federal contracts for institutional construction. Guess that’s money that he doesn’t want given back to the taxpayers.  He’s outraged about spending as long as spending that benefits the family business continues.  I can provide links if you need a sure cure for insomnia. I, for one, don’t.

3. Kent County R’s the Future of the Party?

Hey, at least they’re finding candidates, which is something.  In addition to Kramer, two other R candidates filed this week. Charles Hurd filed for a Levy Court Commissioner At-Large spot, and Jason Mollohan filed for Kent County Sheriff. Went to the Kent County R site to find out more. Bupkus. Although you will want to click on the pics to view the future of the Republican Party.  Googled the names. Ditto. Although a Charles Hurd is facing 25 counts of child pornography possession in Middletown, and a Jason Mollohan is/was a county cop…in New Castle County.  Anyone have any info on the real Hurd and Mollohan? After all, it’s not my job to publicize their candidacies.

Well, there ya go.  The rare, if not unprecedented, All-Rethug version of Delaware Political Weekly.

Back next week. Or maybe not. It’s out of my hands.

So Kramer is this year’s Valenzuela. Belly aching about how terrible taxes are while living large off the public teet.

  2. SussexWatcher says:

Shirley Price, not realizing that people don’t really like her, attempts her second or third comeback, aiming for a county council seat. She’s going for George Cole’s job. Cole is probably retiring, and George Parish is running as the R. http://www.coastalpoint.com/content/price_make_run_sussex_county_council_seat_02_06_2014

  3. SussexWatcher says:

Also, I saw someplace that Jason Mollohan is retired from the NCCo police force, but can’t find a link.

  4. Thanks for the info.

I saw a picture of the NCC cop Jason Mollohan. Seemed awfully young to be eligible for retirement, even by cop pension standards.

But everyone looks young to me now…

  5. SussexWatcher says:

There was, IIR, a mention of an on-duty car accident that forced his retirement. But don’t quote me.

  6. Mikaknows says:

The monster-sexual predator “Charles Hurd” from Middletown isn’t the same Charles Hurd running for the Kent County Levy Court Commissioner At-Large position. Didn’t want us to be slandered against saying we aren’t at least fair and truthful, something the “R’s” have issues with from time to time. Gotta be fair and honest.
