Dog Bites Man: Carper AWOL on Climate Action

Filed in Delaware, National by on January 15, 2014

Hey, didja know that 17 United States senators have formed a working coalition on climate action? Didja know that these senators are members of the two  Senate committees best positioned to have an impact on climate action? Didja know that Tom Carper is a member of one of those committees? I think you can see where this is going:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/01/15/1269743/-Sen-Boxer-and-17-Other-Senators-Launch-Climate-Action-Task-Force-Did-Your-Senator-Join

From the article:

The natural constituencies for the Climate Action Task Force would be the members of the Environmental and Public Works Committee (EPW) and the Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

Boxer, Cardin, Sanders, Whitehouse, Udall, Merkley, and Booker (in rank order) are all on EPW.

The Democrats on EPW who are not (yet) in the Task Force are Max Baucus (MT), Carper (DE), and Gillibrand (NY).

Maybe Tom will find the time/gonads to get involved.  What sayeth thou, O Exalted Corporate Senator? Are you prepared to try to make a difference on climate change? Inquiring minds want to know.

What committee has ever been improved by having Carper on it?

  2. PluribusUnum says:

Now you’re just trolling. You can say a lot of things about Tom Carper but inaction on environmental and climate issues is certainly not one of them.

And any number of other statements and articles that you’d find if you did basic research outside of DailyKos.

And if you think joining a task force is “action”, then you need to get out a bit more. Look at his record. There’s few, if any Senators, who have been more vocal on this.

  3. Well, you’ve got a statement from his Senate website.

    Nothing else.

He can join a working group on this, or he can stay on the sidelines.

    His choice.

If/when he does, I’ll report it.

  4. BTW, speaking of doing basic research, here is the list of top Carper contributors. Lots to dislike here:

    2014: http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/contrib.php?cycle=2014&cid=N00012508&type=I&newmem=N

    2012: http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/contrib.php?cycle=2012&cid=N00012508&type=I&newmem=N

    2006: http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/contrib.php?cycle=2006&cid=N00012508&type=C&newmem=N

When you see who funds him, you understand why he doesn’t give two shits about any of us.

I get where Carper is coming from. His constituents in West Virginia would disprove of his joining.

$232K in contributions mostly from oil/coal companies. Interesting breakdown on some votes too.
