Clinton calling out Republicans for not living in “an evidence-based world”

Filed in National by on February 1, 2013

Apparently riffing on my blog post about Republican economics being entirely faith-based, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said her Benghazi critics have a loose grasp on reality.

“There are some people in politics and in the press who can’t be confused by the facts,” Clinton told the Associated Press in her final one-on-one interview before she steps down from her post at the State Department on Friday. “They just will not live in an evidence-based world. And that’s regrettable. It’s regrettable for our political system and for the people who serve our government in very dangerous, difficult circumstances.”

I hope this is going to be the Democrats overall theme for 2013 and beyond. It answers the GOP’s use of “elitism,” rallies the Democratic big tent to the unifying cause of rationality and is 100% accurate.

As Colbert memorably said about GWB and Republicans sticking to their principles:

“[GWB] believes the same thing on Wednesday that he believed on Monday, no matter WHAT happened on Tuesday.”

The R’s I know don’t have much of a grip on reality. The boeing employee doesn’t believe her employer should pay any federal taxes regardless of their profits, they’re job creators. The postman guy doesn’t want to hear that the repugs caused the USPS financial problems by forcing them to pre-fund their retirement for eighty years in ten years; the problems are caused by poor management. The pharmacy guy complains that insurance companies don’t pay his bills soon enough although medicare does and he just can’t see why single-payer is the path forward. The lady just about to retire is telling me that Obama wants to take away her SS entitlement.
If I try to correct these misconceptions, they do the la-la-la I can’t hear you act. I’ve just given up; you can’t really change their minds at all.
The one thing they have in common is that they are watch Faux News. Thanks to our courts who ruled that Faux news employees can be fired for refusing to tell lies to their viewers!

Jim is right. Just about every idiot who denies historical and science based facts simply parrot from faux news propaganda. They wouldn’t know a cogent argument if it kicked down their door, sat down with them and ate their corn flakes. And yet faux is the top rated “news” channel in the industry, with more viewers than anyone else, by wide margins.

Americans are the most easily duped sheep on the planet, some of whom would even give their own 6 year old if it protects free assault weapons for everyone. We live in an age of unfettered access to information, truth, facts and figures, yet most would rather be led, like said sheep to slaughter, or have someone else do the thinking for them.

The amount of power and influence that a garbage dump like faux news has over the electorate is often times grossly underestimated (or as bush says, “misunderestimated”).
