Governor Markell’s approval rating is below water according to our very non-scientific non-random voluntary internet poll with a small sample size. Here are the results:

Do you approve or disapprove of Governor Markell’s job performance?

48% Disapprove
35% Approve
17% Neutral
6% Don’t know

So, take it with a grain of salt, or not. Is it conservative unhappiness over the budget, progressive unhappiness over the budget, or progressive unhappiness over the Port of Wilmington, or something else.

We are now polling on Lt. Governor Denn.

The witty quips about making “tough choices” that make you popular within the DC disreality bubble are going to make you unpopular here.

  2. Andy says:

Maybe if he was a Delaware Democrat that did not follow so close in the foot steps of Tom Carper then the approval rating might be higher

  3. Zafo Jones says:

Andy, I think you may have misspelled Pete DuPont. 😉

  4. anon. says:

Democrats are upset with his gun control agenda too!

  5. Andy says:

    Maybe its Mike Castle

If we had more public transparency which was demanded by the Port Privatization Bill, I am sure
the Governor’s Approval rating would be much worse. What other back door deals do we not know about? He’s been traveling all over over the country and around the world setting himself up for something big. Hired a PR firm-seen on CNN. The Governor’s says that he aims to bring more jobs to Delaware-have you seen any? Next stop is India-Outsourcing Capital of the World! Of course, with taxpayer expense. My Oh My, I would like to see that bill. Welcome to Globalization.

Perhaps this percipitous drop is what has led Markell to start building his image beyond Delaware:

You are confusing cause and effect. The DC bubble dwelling PR firm probably pushed the “OMGZ!! Need to cut Social Security!!! THE MATH!!” message Markell is on now.

It could also be that informed liberals are starting to realize that not only has he abandoned their issues, but he is untruthful about many of the things his propaganda machine spins for him.
For example, the first bullet on page five of Markell’s 2013 budget address reads:

Consolidated DNREC from six divisions to three offices. (Source: http://budget.delaware.gov/fy2014/budget_presentation.pdf)

    This is more Markell bullshit!

DNREC had five divisions and a bloated Office of the Secretary, not six Divisions when he brought in Secretary O’Mara. They included Divisions of:

    Fish and Wildlife
    Parks and Recreation
    Air and Waste Management
    Water Resources
    Soil and Water Conservation

The Markell Administration added a new Division (or at least created a new division director and claims to have created a Division of Energy and Climate – Although it has not yet been approved since it does not have the number of positions required to justify a separate division budget unit). He also split the Division of Air and Waste into two Divisions.

This increased DNREC to 7 Divisions (with Director Positions), plus a bloated office of the secretary, and a new level of bureaucracy for meetings of the new “virtual” offices of Natural Resources, Environmental Control, and Office of the Secretary.

I challenge any reader to document any cost savings, and in fact know that the statement is actually the opposite of the misleading claim of Governor Markell. It is costing more money to pay for the inefficient bureaucracy.

Even worse, O’Mara took a number of vacant positions from regulatory programs to staff the new Division in order to stay within the Markell position “cap” for DNREC. This has hurt the efficiency or the regulatory programs, which may have been his intent as it fits well with his anti-environmental actions seen under Executive Order 36 that are seeking to weaken regulations.

Please stop calling this a poll. It’s a survey of your peers. It has no merit other than to see what the prevailing trends are on this blog.

  11. Jason330 says:

It has the ability to get your panties twisted. That is something.

  12. Dave says:

In fact, it provides some interesting data. Considering that Markell received nearly 70% of the vote, if one were to contrast that with the “poll” results (which I never looked at so I don’t know what the number was) then an inference could be made about the those who disapproved of Markell. That inference would be how well do those who disapprove of Markell align with the general population of Delaware. Of course there are “hold your nose voters” but it is difficult to measure how many of them voted for Markell because that was their only real choice.

  13. hmmm says:

Right, but you can’t draw any conclusions about those who disapproved of Markell. The people voting in your “polls” don’t disapprove (other than republican trolls), they may be disappointed or disagree, but they aren’t the people who are responding in a negative manner in public polls.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with doing a “finger in the wind” poll. But to repeatedly make posts with “polling analysis” is just, well silly.

  14. Andy says:

Maybe this poll shows that other than Social Issues Democrats are very disapointed with this Governor

  15. Truth Teller says:

It’s the fact that he is a coward when a bill passes both houses without one nay vote the governor waits until both houses have adjourned for the year and then veto’s it never given them a chance to uphold or override.

  16. Dave says:

You mean he used the established political system in a manner that does not meet your approval. Noted.

Perhaps both houses should not adjourn until all the work has been done and adjudicated. Perhaps if the bill had gotten to his desk earlier the houses would have an opportunity to override his veto.

  17. puck says:

Democrats aren’t unhappy with Markell; in general they are rather pleased with him. Activists like us may have a few beefs with him on particular issues, but I don’t think anybody has a realistic alternative (or wants one).

Remember, this is a state where our Congressional delegation can overtly call for cuts to Social Security and Medicare benefits and still get elected with 60%-70% of the vote. We sound like a red state when you put it that way.
