Good question. Let’s ask Yahoo answers:

How much does a minor-league hockey team cost? How do you buy one?

If you are talking about the minors in terms of ECHL, UHL, or SPHL, I will have to say somewhere in the range of $500,000 to $1,800,000. Once purchased, you are looking at annual operating expenses anywhere from $600,000 to $2,000,000 (depending on the market in your area…and I may be a bit conservative on those numbers). You really need to average at least 4,000 people a game and have some really good sponsors in your city to stay in business for an extended period of time. It’s a rough task. That’s why you see so many minor league teams move or fold every year. (At least 6 different minor league organizations in my city during my lifetime.)

As far as the procedure for purchasing a team, get to know the current team owner (should be on any teams website) or apply for an expansion franchise.

$500,000 is doable. I just need 49 friends to pony up $10,000 each. Then I need some state support and favorable loan conditions to make sure I get through the first couple of season without going bankrupt.

The Delaware Zombies – it is on bitches!

Minor league hockey is great, affordable sports entertainment. I have lived in a community with a ECHL team.

I wasn’t a season ticket holder, but did attend a few games and always enjoyed it. Minor league hockey would be a great addition to Delaware.

Or you could win a bet with Romney 49 times. Why not try for 50?

Back to xzmattzx. Great pun on using setting sunlight to actually put some “rust” into the arena…. 🙂
