Thanks for that article, RDL. It reminds me of this piece I read at Kevin Drum’s a few days ago. Mushball Democrats publicly pining for Simpson-Bowles don’t help.

  2. Rusty Dils says:

Video below shows celebraties speaking out against gun violence, and then shows all of those same celebraties profiting from gun violence that appears in the movies, tv show, games they are in.

If you are looking for the definition of hypocrit, don’t look in the dictionary, just watch this video

  3. V says:

yes, because clearly this is only a cultural problem even though we export our entertainment worldwide to counties that have a fraction of our gun violence. There is no grey area and no person can ever talk about anything they haven’t 100% supported forever.

Also, whoever made that totally doesn’t watch Parks and Rec because all those clips are from an episode where someone is hurt in a hunting accident by someone that wasn’t trained to handle the weapon, sort of the opposite of the message implied in the video.

I’m thinking that the key difference between Americans and the rest of the world who consume movies, tv, video games with lots of gun violence is that the Americans are closer to our pal Rusty here. Apparently too many Americans (like our pal Rusty here) have no idea that these movies, tv shows, video games, etc. are fiction and play acting. Just because you are watching a bunch of people paid more than you ever will be run down a street shooting up cars doesn’t mean that you go home and do it In Real Life, no matter what your issues are.

Sorry to break it to you Rusty, but your mama didn’t do you any favors by not telling you this when you were a kid.

  5. Liberal Elite says:

“Hey.. Let’s make a video of lemming going over a cliff.”
“How are we going to do that?”
“How do you think? Now set the traps.”

That lemmings video… The camera man and his buddies are just scaring them or throwing them over the cliff. It’s the worst sort of natural filmography.

  6. puck says:

LE, you are exactly right. The myth was created by a Disney snuff film:

HEY — speaking of hypocrisy! The NRA’s Firearms Museum in Fairfax has been displaying an interesting exhibit: Hollywood Guns!

According to NRA magazine American Rifleman, “If you love guns or you love movies or, still luckier, you love guns and movies, this is a trip you cannot miss.”

Oh Hey! So let me get this story down here — NRA blames violent, gun-packed movies, TV and video games for the American violent culture, but they are celebrating all of those guns in those violent movies with a museum exhibit. Have I got that straight?
